Walton runner breaks her school record in 1,000 meters

Walton's Kristine Reed broke her school record in the 1,000 meters and had the highest finish among local competitors in the Hurley-Quinney Invitational for indoor track Saturday at Cornell University.

Reed finished second in 3 minutes, 11.44 seconds, taking nearly nine seconds off her old record.

Oneonta High's Kim Scofield placed fourth in the triple jump (33 feet, 1 inch) and helped the Yellowjackets' distance-medley relay team to a sixth-place finish in 13:43.2. Missy Emilio, Taylor Hitchcock and Lauren Ward also were on the relay.

Hitchcock finished fourth in the 3,000 (11:16.23).

The Yellowjackets' Theresa DiMartin tied for sixth in the high jump (4-8).

On the boys side, Oneonta's distance-medley relay team of Levi Anderson, Ben Gollin, Mat Robinson and Wembo Tiapo finished fourth in 11:17.94. Gollin also finished sixth in the 1,000 (2:42.12) for OHS, which got a fifth from Aaron Murphy in the triple jump (41-2).

B-G 49, Sidney 30

Randi Conway's team-high 11 points paced Bainbridge-Guilford to a Midstate Athletic Conference victory.

Shania Vandermark and Abbey Smith had nine points apiece, Morgan Bullis finished with eight and Amber DeGroat had six for the Bobcats, who outscored the Warriors, 18-7, in the third quarter to take a 38-21 lead. Four players had four points for B-G in the third quarter.

Bethany Karl had 11 points to lead Sidney.

The Bobcats (8-5, 5-3) are tied for fourth in the MAC standings with Oxford. The top four advance to the MAC Championship Tournament.

B-G hosts Unadilla Valley, which has two league losses, on Tuesday. The Bobcats beat UV by 18 points in their season opener.

Sara Coons and Brooke Koerner had 15 and 12 points, respectively, for Gilboa, which lost a non-league game at home.

Koerner also had four assists for the Wildcats (7-6), who travel to unbeaten South Kortright on Wednesday.

Tyler Latta and Zach Perry had respective 14- and 13-point games for visiting Gilboa, which lost a non-leaguer on the road.

Middleburgh hit half of its eight three-pointers during a 22-15 second quarter that ended with Gilboa trailing, 35-24.

Gilboa (3-9) hosts South Kortright on Tuesday.

Frontier League Diving

Cooperstown's Aaron Idelson finished eighth Saturday in the Frontier League Diving Championships at Carthage.

Idelson, who already has qualified for sectionals in diving, amassed 285.15 points over 11 dives. The remainder of the meet will be completed this Saturday at Watertown.

SKIING

at Windham Mountain

Host Windham swept the field in Section Four Alpine Ski Racing, winning the boys and girls team titles in the slalom and giant slalom.

Windham skiers won all four events as well. Lisa Davis placed first in the girls slalom (37.36 seconds) and giant slalom (28.49), respectively. Aidan Cohane won the boys slalom in 35.50, and Brandon Cohane won the boys giant slalom in 27.34.

In the boys slalom, Hunter-Tannersville's Alan Kochan (37.31) finished second and Russell Pelham of Windham (37.74) finished third. In the giant slalom, Kochan (27.64) finished second again, followed by Aidan Cohane (28.02).

Windham's girls had the top five skiers in the slalom, with Catherine Scahill (45.09), Cayley Woodbeck (45.66), Samantha Simpfenderfer (46.57) and Mattie Seamans (48.36) finishing behind Davis. In the giant slalom, Seamans (30.55) finished second and Simpfenderfer (30.74) tied for third with Katlyn Wood of H-T.

The next Section Four meet is Wednesday at Belleayre.
