First Team all-state selection led area rushers with 1,143 yards in helping Bobcats to a 6-2 record that included the school's first playoff victory. ... Also led Bobcats in tackles from inside linebacker position. ... Considering St. John Fisher, Morrisville State, Alfred University and St. Lawrence for next season. ... "I think with him being such a weapon that it opened up other areas of our offense," Bobcats coach Tim Mattingly said. "Billy's strong presence inside opened up areas for us run outside or to throw the ball."

Guided a Spartans squad coming off a 1-8 season to a 21-0 victory over defending Section Four Class C champion Chenango Forks. ... "Going into that Forks game, we were still hoping to get a playoff spot," Microni said. "We instilled in our guys that the playoffs are right now. We said you have to make it happen and they did a great job." ... The Spartans also pushed 2011 Class C finalist Greene into overtime before falling, 25-19. ... Oneonta High graduate is the longtime baseball coach, steering the Spartans to numerous Midstate Athletic Conference titles.

    HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL _ SECTION FOUR CLASS D TOURNAMENT ... Will Ward finished with five points Tuesday, but they came at just the right time. Ward hit two go-ahead baskets inside the last three minutes of overtime to lead 12th-seeded Milford to a 61-56 boys basketball victory over No. 5 Hancock in the opening round of the Section Four Class D Tournament.

Half of the 16-person field in the Division II 120-pound weight class reached the state tournament last season, but none placed higher than fifth.

    HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL ... SOUTHERN TIER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FINAL ... VESTAL _ There sat Oneonta High's girls, up 11 points with under six minutes remaining against an unbeaten Binghamton squad that brought the No. 2 state ranking among Class AA schools into Saturday's Southern Tier Athletic Conference basketball final. To that point, the Class B Yellowjackets had controlled the paint, rebounded superbly and generally outplayed the seasoned Patriots, who returned four starters from the team that put a 33-point hurting on OHS in last year's STAC final.

Woods secured the Spartans' first league championship since 1984 by blocking a three-point attempt as Unatego beat Sidney, 43-39, in the Midstate Athletic Conference boys basketball final Saturday at Oneonta State.
