Bob Flanagan of Lawrenceville, Ga., shot a 5-under-par 66 on Wednesday to grab the first-round lead at the 28th annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open in Cooperstown.
Flanagan will take a three-shot lead into the second round of the three-day event, which continues this morning at the Leatherstocking Golf Course.
Adam Adams (Coconut Creek, Fla.), Chris Dachisen (Wayne, N.J.), John Gentile (Fairfield, Conn.) and Jim Karr (Palm Beach, Fla.) are tied for second at 69.
Seven others shot 70s Wednesday, including New Yorkers Mark Balen of Lackawanna, Mike Dunsmore of Elizabethtown and Billy Smith of Oyster Bay.
A field of 103 golfers from across the country are competing for a total purse of $75,000.
Proceeds benefit Pathfinder Village, a residential community in Edmeston that is dedicated to children and adults with Down syndrome, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame's educational programs.
The Seniors Open raises more than $50,000 for scholarships for Pathfinder Village on an annual basis.
