Bowling league to meet tonight

The JMS Contracting Strike and Spare Bowling League will hold its fall organizational meeting today at Holiday Lanes, before bowling begins.

Colonial Ridge to host golf events

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will hold a benefit tournament for Morris Methodist Church at 9 a.m. Sept. 18.

The tournament is open to four-person teams. Cost is $50 per player and includes greens fees, cart fees, skins, pin shots and prize money. Cash will be awarded for gross score, net score, skins and pin shots.

 Colonial Ridge Golf also will hold the Clair Jacobsen Memorial Golf Tournament, a captain-and-crew event, at 10 a.m. Sept. 25.

Cost is $45 per person and includes prize money, pin shots, skins and greens fees. The tournament field is limited to 36 teams.

Payouts will be $1,000 for first place, $800 for second, $600 for third, $400 for fourth, $200 for fifth, $100 for sixth, $80 for seventh, $60 for eighth, $40 for ninth and $20 for 10th. Including pin shots and skins, the total payout based on 36 teams will be $4,320.

Basketball officials to meet Sept. 27

The Oneonta Board of Women's Basketball Officials and Board 46 IAABO Men's Officials are looking for new members this year. These boards provide referees for all of the girls and boys modified, junior varsity and varsity basketball games in the area.

The boards will hold their first meeting Sept. 27 at the Holiday Inn in Oneonta. The women's meeting is set for 6:30 p.m., followed by the men's meeting at 7:30 p.m. Classes for new officials will start soon after.

Pit Run set for Oct. 3 at Neahwa Park

The 17th annual Ricky J. Parisian Pit Run will begin at 10:45 a.m. Oct. 3 in Neahwa Park.

The event honors Parisian, a state police investigator who was killed while attempting to stop an armed robbery of the Great American Supermarket in Oneonta on May 20, 1994. Nicknamed Pit, Parisian was off duty at the time.

The Pit Run features a 10-kilometer road race certified by USATF ($25 entry fee), a 5K run ($22), a 2-mile walk ($18) and a Kids' Fun Run (free). Entry fees, which cost $5 more for those who register on race day, include T-shirts and barbecue chicken.

Registration and number pickup runs from 8-10:15 a.m. Oct. 3 at Neahwa Park. The Kids' Fun Run is for youths ages 10 and younger. Registration is not required for the fun run, and all participants will receive prizes.

Applications and checks should be mailed to Pit Run, P.O. Box 1201, Oneonta, NY 13820. Proceeds will benefit the Ricky J. Parisian Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

Pit Run dinner Oct. 2 at Elks Club

The Elks Club at 84 Chestnut St. in Oneonta will host the annual Ricky J. Parisian Pit Run Pasta Dinner from 4:30-8 p.m. Oct. 2.

All runners, volunteers and families are invited to attend the all-you-can-eat dinner, which features pasta, sauce, meatballs, salad, bread and fruit.

Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for youths ages 6-12 and free for children younger than 6. For more information, visit the website www.pitrun.org.

Oneonta woman completes triathlon

Wilber Park lifeguard Sophia Minutolo, 23, competed in the Diamond Girl New York Triathlon on Aug. 29 at Harriman State Park.

Minutolo placed 24th out of 124 athletes, who swam 500 meters, cycled 15.5 miles, and ran 4 miles. Minutolo finished second in her 20-24 age group with a time of 1 hour, 57 minutes.

Maynard, Tinkler win bass tourney

Bill Maynard and Mike Tinkler won the Susquehanna Bass Association's Reel Men Fishing Guides Bass Tournament, which ran Aug. 29 on Canadarago Lake.

The local duo filled the five-fish limit with a weight of 14.87 pounds. Maynard also caught the lunker of the day, a 19.5-inch, 4.52-pound largemouth.

Rob DeMott placed second with a solo effort of 12.14 pounds. Bruce Hall and Vince Fink finished third (11.27 pounds) and Lou Falvo and Anthony Konchar placed fourth (10.95).

Phil Kroll caught the big smallmouth of the day, at 16.75 inches and 2.87 pounds. Eight of the 19 teams filled the limit.
