Hawkeyes rally in 9th

One night after a six-run first inning lifted Cooperstown to a win over Oneonta, the Hawkeyes rallied for six runs in the ninth inning to beat the host Newark Pilots, 10-8, in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League game Wednesday.

Cooperstown graduate Kyle Liner walked twice and scored in the ninth inning for the Hawkeyes. Colton Beatty had an RBI single and Jacob Hubert contributed an RBI double in the inning, which was aided by two Newark errors.

Liner finished 1-for-2, with a run-scoring single in the fifth inning as Cooperstown (11-25) won its second straight, following a 10-game skid.

Beatty and Ty Morris had two hits apiece for the Hawkeyes, who travel to Damaschke Field at 7 tonight to play the Outlaws.

Oneonta 3, Elmira 1

Winning pitcher Nathaniel Abel (1-2) allowed one run on four hits over seven innings to lead the host Outlaws to a PGCBL victory.

Clay Bates followed with two scoreless innings of relief.

Zach Lucas staked Oneonta to a two-run lead in the first inning with a two-RBI double. Zac Johnson contributed a home run to right in the third inning as Oneonta improved to 18-18.

TUESDAY

Cooperstown 10, Oneonta 5

Bradley Vanderglas' three-run triple highlighted a six-run first inning that carried the host Hawkeyes to a PGCBL victory Tuesday.

Cooperstown had five hits in the first inning off of losing pitcher Taylor Hicks (1-4).

Steven Kandborg, Jacob Hubert, Quinn Pippin and Matt Carr had two hits apiece for Cooperstown. Carr's two-run homer to center in the sixth inning gave Cooperstown an 8-1 lead.

Logan Brown went 4-for-5 for the Outlaws, who received two hits apiece from Orlando Rivera, Lucas Leifield and Omar Garcia.
