OHS girls rout CV

Karsen Shultz scored three goals and visiting Oneonta High held Chenango Valley to no shots during a 8-0 Southern Tier Athletic Conference girls soccer victory Wednesday.

Shultz scored off an assist from Cami Cleaveland 13 minutes into play to make it 1-0. Brianna Georgia made it 2-0 six minutes later.

"We were very unselfish," OHS coach Jerry Mackey said. "We had good overlaps, we were playing to space and we were looking for each other. A couple of times, their defenders were backing off and we were taking the space and shooting from 22 yards out. It's good to see we're taking what the defense gives us."

Georgia and Cleaveland had a goal and an assist apiece, and Amy Hait, Dani Nicosia and Jo Foti also scored for the Yellowjackets (9-1, 9-0), who can all but clinch the STAC's East Division with a victory at home over rival Chenango Forks on Friday.

OHS lost, 2-0, to Forks in last season's Section Four Class B final after beating the Blue Devils twice during the regular season. Oneonta defeated Forks, 2-0, earlier this season. The Blue Devils have a loss and a tie in STAC play.

"If we take care of Friday, at worst we'll tie our division," Mackey said.

Mackey added he hopes to get some girls who've been nursing injuries, among them Sienna Glavine (knee), Jen Jelic (toe), Seneca Baldwin (ankle) and Breanna Baker (hip).

"It'll be nice to get some depth back for Friday," he said.

"It was the most beautiful shot I've ever seen," Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Tina Cole said of Hill's lofted shot just under the crossbar and just inside the far post.

Mason made it 2-0 with 20 1/2 minutes, scoring on an indirect kick from 22 yards.

"We possessed the ball longer than they did," said Cole, whose team has won three straight. "We didn't let them have the ball."

The Raiders will try to make it four straight Friday, when they travel to unbeaten Morris.
