Georgia golf pro Tom Eubank shot a 64 Friday to jump from fifth place to first, earning the title at the 30th annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open with a three-day total of 200 at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown.
Eubank, who lives in Ellijay, Ga., tied the tournament record for the lowest 18-hole round en route to the $7,500 winner’s check.
“I was here for the event last year but was disappointed when it was cancelled due to the storm,” said Eubank, who started Friday’s round in a tie for fifth place. “I’m a partner in the Sunbelt Senior Tour, something I don’t take lightly, and I have to say this is probably the best senior event in the country.”
Eubank beat second-day leader Javier Sanchez (Fayetteville, Ga.) by two strokes and Bill Britton (Rumson, N.J.) by three. Sanchez shot a 70 on Friday. He and Wayne Wright (Forth Worth, Texas) also matched the tournament record during Thursday’s second round.
Kirk Hanefeld (Acton, Mass.) placed fourth at 205 and Mark Mielke (East Norwich) tied Mike Lawrence (Anderson, S.C.) for fifth at 206.
