Free throws key to H-T's win in OT

Amy Loucks and Leanna VanValkenburg each hit 1 of 2 free throws in the waning moments of overtime Tuesday as Hunter-Tannersville beat visiting Gilboa, 41-40, in the Delaware League.

Gilboa capped the scoring on Brooke Koerner's two-pointer at the buzzer. Courtney Palmisano had 11 points and Jessica Caputo scored 10 for Gilboa, which stole an inbounds pass under its basket but missed a layup at the end of regulation.

Maureen Pesciotta finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for H-T, which received 17 rebounds and seven points from Annie Butler. H-T is at Roxbury on Thursday.

Hannah Kimmel scored a game-high 34 points and cousin Alycia Kimmel contributed varsity highs of 30 points and seven three-pointers as host Harpursville (6-2, 2-0) cruised to a Midstate Athletic Conference Division II victory.

Jessie Winans hit five threes en route to a team-high 27 points for the Crimson Knights, who trailed, 22-11, after one quarter en route to a 47-27 halftime deficit.

Harpursville hosts Oxford on Friday.

Emma Ryanmiller hit six field goals and went 11-for-13 at the foul line for a season-best 23 points as visiting Cooperstown (4-4, 1-2) won at Herkimer in the Center State Conference.

Holli Erkson contributed nine points _ seven from the free throw line _ for the Redskins, who jumped to a 27-13 lead at halftime. Cooperstown finished 26-for-40 from the foul line, including a 5-for-6 effort from Ryanmiller and a 5-for-5 showing from Molly Pearlman in the fourth quarter.

Samantha Carswell paced Herkimer with 20 points.

Cooperstown hosts Canastota on Thursday.

Chelsea Martin scored a game-high 22 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Jefferson's Delaware League road victory.

Vanessa Speenburgh contributed nine points for the J-Hawks, who led, 23-14, at halftime.

Michelle O'Reilly had a team-high nine points for Margaretville, which received six points and eight rebounds from Danielle Hull.

Erica Faulkner, who is the Blue Devils's leading scorer at 14.4 points per game, was held to just five points.

"They knew where she was all the time," Margaretville coach Kyle Holden said.

The Blue Devils (3-5, 1-4) travel to South Kortright on Thursday.

Kennedy Faraci scored a team-high 13 points for the Rockets, who received 10 points from Paulina Cowan.

"I hear everyone in the background and stuff," Oneonta High junior forward Baker said Monday night, "but mainly, it's just me, the ball and the basket. You've just got to make them." Junior forward Baker made five clutch free throws in a row in the fourth quarter, when she scored seven of her team-high 11 points to lead host Oneonta High to a 35-27 girls basketball victory over Norwich.

    The recent departure of Bill May left vacancies at Oneonta State and the Unatego School District. May, 47, was announced as Southeastern University's women's tennis coach Friday. He'll also be the school's men's tennis coach the following season when that program begins its first season. May spent seven seasons as the men's and women's tennis coach at Oneonta State. He served as athletic director at Unatego the last two seasons.
