Laurens to induct Class of 2009 tonight

Laurens will host its second annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony between the first-round varsity boys basketball games of today's Pat Grasso Holiday Tournament.

The ceremony will follow the varsity opener between defending Class D state champion South Kortright and Milford at 6 p.m. today. SK also won the Delaware League and Section Four Class D titles last season.

The second varsity game _ between Hancock and two-time defending Tri-Valley League champion Laurens _ is scheduled to start at 7:30 tonight.

The Leopards will induct 1964 graduate Dean Wikoff, former teacher and coach Tom DeLaurentiis and the 1963-64 boys basketball team.

Wikoff holds Laurens' single-game scoring record in boys basketball at 36 points, according to a release from the school last week. Also a baseball and football player for the Leopards, he will be inducted as part of the 1963-64 boys basketball team as well. That team, which won the school's first Section Four championship under former coach Grasso, also includes Alan Anderson, Tom Berger, William Coulter, George Decker, John Ganio, John Isler, Mitchell McMullen, Gerry Wikoff, Ronald Wikoff and the late James Emerson.

DeLaurentiis, who worked for Laurens from 1973-2007, earned induction as a longtime contributor to the Leopards' athletic programs.

Laurens also is holding a fundraiser raffle featuring memorabilia from the New Orleans Hornets. Laurens graduate Lisa Kollgaard-Bower is the wife of Hornets general manager and coach Jeff Bower, who donated the following items for the raffle: a team-signed basketball, a pair of team sneakers and an autographed pair of David West, NBA All-Star sneakers.

Raffle tickets cost $3 apiece and may be purchased at the school or during the tournament. The drawing will be held during Wednesday's second round. Ticket-holders do not have to be present to win.

Today's first round also features junior varsity games between SK and Milford at 3 p.m. and Laurens and Hancock at 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday's games begin with the JV consolation at 3 p.m., followed by the JV championship at 4:30 p.m., the varsity consolation at 6 p.m. and the varsity championship at 7:30 p.m.

Clement Tournament

Morris will host the Ray Clement boys basketball tournament today and Wednesday.

The tournament begins today with back-to-back JV games as Edmeston meets Hamilton at 1 p.m. and Morris plays Mohawk at 2:30 p.m. The same schools will meet in the varsity openers, at 4 and 5:30 p.m. today, respectively.

Wednesday's schedule starts with the JV consolation at noon, followed by the JV championship at 1:30 p.m., the varsity consolation at 3 p.m. and the varsity championship at 4:30 p.m.

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.
