Sidney graduate Pat Simonds will test his skills against some of the nation's top seniors Jan. 23.
Simonds, who recently completed his senior football season at Colgate University, was selected for the 85th East-West Shrine Game at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
Simonds, Fordham quarterback John Skelton and The Citadel wide receiver Andre Roberts were the lone players from Football Championship Subdivision schools _ formerly Division I-AA _ on the rosters.
The East-West Shrine Game is the longest-running All-Star game in the country and features some of the highest-rated players in the projected NFL draft ranking. Ninety percent of the players from last year's game were drafted or signed as free agents by NFL teams. A total of 307 East-West Shrine Game alumni were on 2009 NFL opening-day rosters.
This past season, Simonds caught 66 passes for 1,012 yards and a school-record 14 touchdowns. He became the third Colgate receiver to have back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons.
Simonds, a 6-foot-6, 225-pounder, finished fourth all-time at Colgate in receptions and receiving yardage.
As a senior at Sidney, Simonds had 52 catches for 1,038 yards and 18 touchdowns, helping the Warriors to the Class C state championship.
He's rated 24th among 337 draft-eligible wide receivers by nfldraftscout.com. The website projects Simonds as a seventh-round draft selection.
