Hawks freshman recognized

Hartwick freshman forward Kelsey Kimble was recently named to the womensfieldhockey.com Division III All-Rookie Team.

Kimble joined Cortland's Danielle Groneman and William Smith's Annie Kietzman as freshmen from New York colleges on the 15-player team.

Kimble earned Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year and second-team all-state honors. She tied for the team lead in goals with nine.

She led the team with five winning goals and contributed five assists. Kimble was tied for fifth in the E8 conference in goals, and tied for sixth in points and assists.

O-State athletes of the week

Senior men's basketball player Mike Grimes and freshman swimmer Kristen Magliola were named Oneonta State's athletes of the week.

Grimes was named MVP of the Scotty Wood Tournament at Muhlenberg College this past weekend. He averaged 12 points and a team-best 7.5 rebounds in the two-day tournament, which the Red Dragons won.

Grimes scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds against the host Mules in a 72-58 win Friday. In the championship game against William Paterson, Grimes scored a game-high 16 points in O-State's 56-53 victory.

Magliola won her three individual events this past weekend in leading the Red Dragons to a first-place finish at the North Country Invitational at Potsdam State. She set a school record in winning the 200-yard breaststroke in 2 minutes, 33.58 seconds.

Her breastroke split of 1:09.90 in the 400 medley relay also bettered the school record she set earlier in the season.

Magliola also won the 200 IM (2:15.28) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.84).
