{"HeadlineLight14"/}Frost Bite 5K set for Dec. 31

The Oneonta Family YMCA is accepting registrations for its annual Frost Bite 5K Run, which will start at 1 p.m. Dec. 31 on Market Street in Oneonta.

The YMCA will hold race-day registration from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Dec. 31. Pre-registration deadline is Dec. 18. Cost is $16 for pre-registered runners and $18 after Dec. 18. Registration for youths ages 10 and younger costs $8. T-shirts are only guaranteed for pre-registered runners. T-shirts are available on race day on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Gilbertsville Rod and Gun Club will close its rifle range and trap-shoot area during big-game hunting season through Dec. 22. There will be no drives during the first week of the season.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Drago tournaments start this week

Oneonta High's boys and girls basketball teams will open their seasons this week as hosts of the Anthony C. Drago tip-off tournaments. Each tournament features four junior varsity teams and four varsity squads.

The boys start Tuesday with JV games between Oneonta and Johnson City (3 p.m.) and Seton Catholic Central and Holland Patent (4:45 p.m.). Seton and HP open the varsity tournament at 6:30 p.m., followed by OHS and JC at 8:15 p.m. The JV consolation and championship games run at 3 and 4:45 p.m., respectively, on Friday, followed by the varsity consolation and title games at 6:30 and 8:15 p.m., respectively.

The Drago girls tournaments start Wednesday with JV games between Oneonta and Susquehanna Valley (3 p.m.) followed by Gloversville and Vestal (4:45 p.m.). Varsity games between Gloversville and Vestal (6:30 p.m.) and OHS and SV (8:15 p.m.) follow. The JV consolation and championship games run at 3 and 4:45 p.m., respectively, on Saturday, followed by the varsity consolation and title games at 6:30 and 8:15 p.m., respectively.

Tickets cost $2 for adults and $1 for students.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Morris to host girls basketball tourney

Morris plays host to the annual Joan Martin Thanksgiving Classic girls basketball tournament Friday and Saturday.

DeRuyter will play Hamilton at 4 p.m. Friday and Morris will meet Deposit at 5:30 p.m. The consolation game is at 3 p.m. Saturday with the championship to follow at 4:30.

The junior varsity portion of the tournament pits DeRuyter against Hamilton at 1 p.m. and Deposit against Morris at 2:30 p.m. Friday. The consolation is at noon Saturday, followed by the title game at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $3 for adults and $2 for students.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Unatego to host Alumni Weekend

Unatego's sixth annual Alumni Weekend will run Friday through Sunday.

There will be a women's alumni volleyball game at 7 p.m. Friday; a men's basketball game at 7 p.m. Saturday; and an indoor soccer game at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Donations to the Unatego Alumni Scholarship Fund will be accepted.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will host its Holiday Celebration from 3-5 p.m. Dec. 5.

A holiday concert featuring Pathfinder Village Hand Bell Choir and the Oneonta State Tonics A Cappella group will be held in the Hall's Plaque Gallery.

The Hall's Autumn Glory exhibit, recently updated with several artifacts from the 2009 postseason, also will be open.

Visitors will receive free admission with the donation of at least two non-perishable food items Dec. 5. Donations will support the Cooperstown Food Bank and Opportunities for Otsego.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Ray Clement Tournament Dec. 29-30

Morris' Ray Clement boys basketball tournament will run Dec. 29-30.

The varsity tournament opens with Edmeston against Hamilton at 4 p.m. Dec. 29. Mohawk and Morris will follow at 5:30 p.m. The consolation is 3 p.m. Dec. 30, with the championship to follow at 4:30 p.m.

In the JV tournament, Edmeston and Hamilton play at 1 p.m., followed by Mohawk and Morris at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 29. The following day, the consolation game is at noon and the championship is at 1:30 p.m.

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Perch Derby scheduled for Feb. 6

The Oxford Lions Club will host the 11th Chenango Lake Perch Derby Feb. 6 on Chenango Lake in New Berlin.

Should the event need to be postponed, it will run Feb. 20.

The derby offers numerous prizes, including ones for catching the largest perch and the largest pickerel of the day. Prizes also will be awarded for the largest perch every 15 minutes.

A specially-tagged perch is worth $1,000 in cash. If it is not caught, the prize will be raffled off to registered participants. Should insufficient ice result in the cancellation of the derby, the prize will be raffled off to those who pre-registered.

The Oxford Lions Club also will hold a raffle that will be drawn on the day of the derby. All raffle prizes will be worth at least $100.

Proceeds from the Chenango Lake Perch Derby are used to maintain many community and area projects supported by the Oxford Lions Club, such as eye examinations and eyeglasses for those in need.

The Blue Jays Baseball Club will hold its seventh annual exhibition series near Cooperstown for high school varsity teams in the spring of 2010.

The club also will host tournaments for summer teams ages 13, 14U, 15U, 16U and 18U. Night games are possible.

The winter session of Lacrosse Oneonta will run Mondays through Feb. 15 at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

OBGC members in grades 3-7 will play from 5-7 p.m., followed by grades 8-12 from 7-9 p.m. There is no cost to play, but participants must be OBGC members. Equipment is limited.

Oneonta State is hosting a weekly television sports show called "Inside Red Dragon Sports" at 7:30 p.m. Mondays on Time Warner Cable channel 23. Replays of each show will be televised at 6 p.m. the following Saturday on TWC channel 23.

The show also will be available through the Internet on the campus' streaming site, which has a permanent link on O-State's athletics homepage at www.oneonta.edu/academics/athletics/.
