NJCAA Half-Marathon
Creig Levens earned All-American honors for SUNY Delhi with a sixth-place finish Saturday during the NJCAA Half-Marathon Championships at Johnson County Community College in Kansas City.
Levens, a former SUNY Cobleskill runner, finished the 13.1-mile course in 1 hour, 11 minutes, 31 seconds. His time marked the second-fastest in program history as Chris Mason completed the same course in 1:11:26 last season.
"It's difficult to go out there and earn All-American against the international guys who compete on full scholarships," said Broncos coach Justin Wood, a former Division I runner at Seton Hall who graduated from SUNY Delhi and Walton Central. "The course was not easy. It has rolling hills with a lot of small turns."
Levens helped Delhi to 66 points for a sixth-place finish out of 16 teams. Wood said Gillette Community College's Kipkorir Mutai won the title in 1:07:49 and added that the top six finishers received All-American accolades.
Jon Tuttle placed 25th in 1:17:29 for Delhi, which got a 31st from Will Ennis (1:18:39) and a 74th from Chris Rosenberger (1:30:49) in the 83-man field.
Wood said Tuttle and Levens completed their last races for Delhi on Saturday. Wood said Tuttle is likely to transfer to Cortland following his early graduation next month and that Levens had college eligibility remaining only for Saturday's half-marathon.
Levens earned NJCAA Division III All-American cross country honors in 2005 and 2006 for Cobleskill, when it was still a two-year college.
