Sophomore guard Mark Blazek scored 26 points Friday to lead Hartwick College to an 86-58 men's basketball victory over Cazenovia in the first round of the Tom Greene Memorial Tip-Off Classic at Lambros Arena.
Blazek shot 8-for-14 from the field, including a 6-for-6 effort from behind the three-point line for the Hawks (2-0), who will play Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (1-1) in the second round of the tournament at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Senior center Kyle Phillips contributed 11 points and a team-best eight rebounds for the Hawks, who received 10 points from senior forward James Mantas.
Senior guard Mike Tracy, a Morris graduate, hit 2 of 5 three-point attempts and scored eight points for Hartwick, which took a 46-26 lead into halftime. Hartwick finished 11-for-22 from three-point range and 34-for-65 overall from the field.
Castleton (1-1) defeated MCLA, 80-69, in the other first-round game. Castleton and Cazenovia (0-2) will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday in the second round.
O-State 72, Muhlenberg 58
Brian Hooks scored 19 points as visiting Oneonta State won in the opening round of the Scotty Wood Tournament at Muhlenberg.
Kevin Walsh had 11 points and six rebounds for the Red Dragons (1-0), who snapped a 50-all tie midway through the second half with a 12-0 run.
Brian Beckford contributed 10 points and Mike Grimes had eight points and nine rebounds for O-State, which plays William Patterson in the championship game at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Rochester 58, O-State 40
Samantha Szkotak had a game-high 15 points for Oneonta State, which started its season with a loss to host Rochester in the first round of the Chuck Resler Tournament.
Unatego graduate and fellow forward Erika Puffer contributed eight points, five rebounds and a block for the Red Dragons, who received five blocks from center Mary Kate O'Connell and five steals from guard Rebecca Bucci.
The Yellowjackets held a 15-0 lead 7 minutes into the game en route to a 31-11 halftime lead.
O-State meets Williams in the consolation game at 3 p.m. Saturday. Rochester and Baldwin-Wallace will follow in the championship game.
Alfred 73, Hartwick 52
Freshman Jalicia Connell had 15 points and five rebounds for Hartwick, which fell to Empire 8 Conference rival Alfred University in the opening round of the Betty Abgott Invitational at Buffalo State.
Shamia Dean and Heather Pruchansky contributed eight points apiece for the Hawks (1-1), who play Sage College (1-2) in the consolation game at noon Saturday.
Alfred (3-0) will play the host Bengals (1-1) for the title at 2 p.m. Saturday. Buffalo State beat Sage, 74-61, in Friday's other opener.
UNE 67, Cobleskill 47
Freshman Kaitlin Myers scored 12 points and sophomore Chelcy Moore grabbed 10 rebounds for SUNY Cobleskill, which fell to the University of New England in the first round of the 14th annual Keene State Tip-Off Tournament.
The Fighting Tigers (1-1) will play Regis College (2-1) in the consolation game at 1 p.m. Saturday. UNE (3-0) will play host Keene (2-0) for the title at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Regis fell, 73-64, to Keene in Friday's other opener.

Hartwick honors
Hartwick College wide receiver Noah Koreman has been selected to compete in the D-3 Football Senior Classic, which starts at 2 p.m. Dec. 5 in Salem, Va.
Koreman ranks ninth in Division III football in reception yards per game (120) and has a team-best 16 touchdown catches this season. He will lead the Hawks (5-4) into the Eastern College Athletic Conference North Atlantic Bowl Championship against host Union (7-3) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Koreman and teammate Tosh DeMulder also received First Team Offense honors from the Empire 8 Conference on Thursday, and Ben Tomaino earned a First Team Defense award.
Unatego graduate DeMulder, a senior running back, also made the Second Team as an all-purpose player. He is averaging 102.1 rushing yards per game and 5.8 per carry. DeMulder has 10 rushing touchdowns and two receiving.
Senior defensive lineman Tomaino, an Oneonta High graduate, has conference highs of 15 tackles for losses and 10 sacks. A second-teamer in 2008, Tomaino averages 7.9 tackles.
Honorable mentions went to Hartwick senior tight end Keith Geraldsen (offense) and sophomore linebacker Jordan Spirou (defense). Senior Mark Thoefel was Hartwick football's Sportsman of the Year, an award that is given to one player on each E8 team.

Macomber Classic
SUNY Delhi's Joseph Schirrman set a program record Thursday with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle that helped the Broncos to a second-place finish in the three-team Donald Macomber Starting Block Classic at SUNY Cobleskill.
Schirrman touched in 22.98 for Delhi, which had 294 points _ eight ahead of the host Fighting Tigers. Wells won with 375 points.
Elizabeth Butler won the 100 backstroke (1:17.62) and the 200 individual medley (2:49.00) for Cobleskill's women, who placed last with 253 points. Wells' women won at 477, followed by Delhi at 290.
Butler also helped the Fighting Tigers to a program record in the 200 free relay (2:02.87).
Cobleskill competes at the William Smith Invitational on Saturday.
