Simonds breaks TD mark

Sidney graduate Pat Simonds completed a four-year stay on Colgate University's football team by catching nine passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns in the Raiders' 29-14 victory Saturday against visiting Bucknell.

Simonds finished the season with 14 touchdown receptions, a single-season school record.

Overall at Colgate, Simonds made 171 catches for 2,797 yards on 28 touchdowns. He ranks fourth in school history in receptions and receiving yardage, and third in touchdown catches.

A 6-foot-6, 225-pounder, Simonds helped Sidney to a Class C state championship in 2005 as a senior, catching 52 passes for 1,038 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The website nfldraftscout.com rates Simonds 25th out of 333 draft eligible wide receivers. Simonds is also rated 214th overall by the website, which projects him as a seventh-round selection for the 2010 NFL draft in April.

Colgate went 9-2.

Senior Coyle (Oneonta High) scored in the 79th minute Saturday to give Geneseo a one-goal lead, but Endicott College (Mass.) eventually tied it at 1 and advanced with a 6-5 shootout victory in an NCAA Division III first-round women's soccer game.

It was Coyle's team-leading 13th goal of the season. Coyle also had an assist this season and led the Blue Knights with 27 points.

She earned co-Daily Star Player of the Year honors with teammate Breanna Gault in 2004.

Geneseo finished the season at 14-4-3.

Andy Foote

Sidney graduate Foote played six minutes in Brockport State's season-opening, 75-72 basketball victory over St. Lawrence on Sunday.

Foote, The Daily Star's Player of the Year in 2007, when he led the Warriors to a Class C state championship, did not have any stats.

He is a junior guard.

Chad Herring

Unatego graduate Herring has made 53 tackles as a junior free safety on Ithaca College's football team.

Herring also has an interception, a fumble recovery and four pass breakups for the Bombers, who are 7-3.

He made seven tackles and broke up two passes in Ithaca's 23-20 victory over rival Cortland State this past Saturday.

Brendan Pidgeon

Pidgeon (Oneonta High) made a team-high seven tackles in the University of Rochester's 34-20 loss to Hobart on Saturday.

A freshman linebacker who was named The Daily Star's Player of the Year in 2008, Pidgeon leads the Yellowjackets with 51 1/2 tackles. He also has an interception and three forced fumbles.

Rochester is 4-6.
