Baseball Hall grabs Matsui's bat

The New York Yankees are giving back to the community _ specifically ours.

The bat Hideki Matsui used to drive in six runs Wednesday in Game 6 of the 105th World Series is among the nine Yankees postseason artifacts acquired by the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Cooperstown shrine announced Thursday. Matsui earned World Series MVP honors after homering, doubling and singling Wednesday.

The Yankees, who won their record 27th World Series championship with a 7-3 home victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, also donated the following items, which will become part of the Hall's Autumn Glory Exhibit later this month.

 Mariano Rivera's postseason cap from a stretch where the closer saved five of the Yankees' 11 wins and had a 0.56 ERA.

 Derek Jeter's Game 6 bat. Jeter batted .407 in the World Series and scored five times.

 Andy Pettitte's World Series cap. Pettitte went 4-0 in the postseason, including a 2-0 record in the Series.

 Johnny Damon's spikes from his Game 4 double-steal. Damon also hit .364 in the Series and scored six runs.

 Jorge Posada's catcher's mask from the postseason. Posada drove in five runs in the Series.

 Jose Molina's catcher's mask from the postseason.

 Suzyn Waldman's scorecard from Game 6. Waldman became the first woman to broadcast a World Series game when she served as a radio voice for the Yankees.

 Pettitte's No. 46 jersey, which he wore during Game 6 of the American League Championship Series in setting a postseason record with 16 playoff wins.

The Autumn Glory Exhibit also will feature these artifacts:

 Cliff Lee's postseason cap for the Phillies. Lee went 4-0 in five postseason starts with a 1.56 ERA.

 The first ball to come out of play during Game 1 of the Series, which was the first at the new Yankee Stadium. The game also featured Lee's 10-strikeout performance in the Phillies' 6-1 victory.

These items and others from the 2009 postseason will be on display at the Hall from mid-November through the 2010 Major League Baseball postseason.
