Staff Report
Hartwick's men ran their unbeaten streak to nine games after playing host Bowling Green to a 2-2 Mid-American Conference tie in a soccer match that featured six yellow cards, one red card and 36 fouls Sunday.
All the scoring came in the final 19 minutes of regulation, with Hartwick's Michael Cunningham converting a penalty kick with 4 minutes, 42 seconds left to tie the score at 2.
Trailing, 2-1, with about eight minutes, Hartwick's Dan Summers drew a red card, meaning the Hawks had to play the final 7:15 of regulation and overtime a man down.
Still, Bowling Green fouled a Hartwick player in the box, setting up Cunningham for the pk. Cunningham then scored his second goal of the season.
Steven Amaya gave Hartwick the lead with his first goal of the season, in the 72nd minute of play.
The Falcons (2-9-3, 1-2-1 MAC) answered with two goals by Jacob Lawrence in a seven-minute span. He beat Hartwick keeper Jeremy Vuolo on a penalty kick 3:16 after Amaya's goal. Then with nine minutes to go, Lawrence headed in a corner kick from Hunter Van Houten. It marked the first time this season Hartwick has permitted two goals.
With an extra man, Bowling Green outshot Hartwick, 3-0, in the first 10-minute overtime. Lawrence took two shots that were blocked and Vuolo denied Zach Lemke for the last of his six saves.
Hartwick (8-2-3, 3-0-1) then outshot the Falcons, 3-0, in the second overtime. Owen Botting took three corner kicks and Sam Wright shot just over the crossbar. In the final seconds, Nick Roydhouse had his shot blocked by a BG defender.
Hartwick held advantages of 19-14 in shots and 11-6 in corner kicks.
The Hawks play host to Western Michigan at 1 p.m. Saturday in their final MAC match of the regular season.

Springfield 35, Hartwick 7
After a 4-0 start against non-conference foes, host Hartwick dropped its third straight Empire 8 game Saturday. The Hawks (4-3, 0-3) scored first, but Springfield (6-1, 2-1) answered with 35 straight, including 28 after halftime.
Brian Radley hit Keith Geraldsen on a 9-yard touchdown to cap a 15-play, 74-yard drive on the Hawks' second possession. Heath Dunn's extra point made it 7-0.
The Pride scored on their ensuing possession capped by Joe Myhren's 6-yard scoring run to tie the score at 7.
In the second quarter, Hartwick drove to Springfield's 12 before Radley was intercepted in the end zone by freshman Niall Murphy, who finished with two interceptions. Springfield, which had 363 rushing yards, took the lead for keeps on the first possession of the second half, driving 72 yards. Baldwin Cunningham, who had a team-high 113 yards on the ground, had a 31-yard run and quarterback Josh Carter capped the drive with a 2-yard run.
It appeared Hartwick would tie the score when Unatego graduate Tosh DeMulder broke a 39-yard run down the left sideline to Springfield's 2. But two running plays and an incomplete pass set up fourth down, and Dunn missed a 19-yard field goal. Later in the third quarter, Carter finished off a 14-play, 78-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run to make it 21-7.
DeMulder finished with a game-high 158 rushing yards. He moved into third place on Hartwick's all-time rushing list. Radley threw for 137 yards, going 13-for-35. Noah Koreman had five catches for 72 yards.
Delhi graduate Chad Rockefeller and Oneonta High grad Ben Tomaino had 13 and 11 tackles, respectively, for Hartwick, which travels to Utica College on Saturday.
