Staff Report
All that work for nothing.
After battling back to tie the score and send the game to extra innings Thursday, the Oneonta Tigers allowed four runs in the top of the 10th inning and dropped a 9-5 New York-Penn League game in front of an announced crowd of 606 at Damaschke Field.
Drew Hedman's RBI double highlighted the inning for Lowell (42-30), which clinched the Stedler Division title in the opening game of a doubleheader Wednesday night.
Oneonta (34-37) closed the home portion of its schedule Thursday. The Tigers lost four straight and seven of eight during its final homestand. The O-Tigers have lost 12 of their last 13 overall.
The Tigers finish the season with a three-game series at Hudson Valley, beginning at 7:05 tonight and concluding at 7:05 p.m. Sunday.
Lowell snapped a 5-all tie with a big 10th inning.
Oneonta's Wade Kapteyn relieved Michael Morrison to start the inning and walked Kenneth Roque, who moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Hassan. Hedman then doubled to right, scoring Roque to make it 6-5.
The Spinners took advantage of back-to-back errors by shortstop Jimmy Gulliver to score another run. Drew Dominquez capped the scoring with a two-run single.
Rawley Bishop had a two-out single in the bottom of the 10th, but Jordan Flasher struck out Alexis Espinoza looking to end the game.
The O-Tigers rallied from deficits of 3-0 and 5-2 to send the game to extras.
Oneonta scored two in the fifth to make it 3-2. Jamie Johnson walked and scored on Gulliver's triple. Gulliver then scored on Eric Roof's two-out single.
Lowell scored twice in the top of the sixth, but Oneonta rallied in the bottom half when Gulliver (3-for-6) hit a two-out, two-run double.
The Tigers tied it in the seventh as Espinoza scored when Roof reached on a fielding error by first baseman Hedman.
