O-Tigers, Cyclones rained out

Rain forced the postponement of Friday night's New York-Penn League game between the Oneonta Tigers and the Brooklyn Cyclones at Damaschke Field.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Oneonta (33-31), which has lost six straight, picked up a half-game on Stedler Division leader Lowell, which lost, 4-3, to Hudson Valley on Friday.

The O-Tigers trail the Spinners (38-28) by four games. Oneonta has 11 games remaining, one more than Lowell.

The O-Tigers trail Staten Island (39-27) by five games in the wild-card chase. The Yankees beat Tri-City, 5-2.

Oneonta is attempting to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2007, when it fell in the first round to Auburn.

The three division champions and one wild-card team will play for the NY-Penn title in early September.

The probable starting pitchers for Saturday's doubleheader have been set, said Oneonta Assistant General Manager Eric Knighton.

Oneonta's Jose Diaz (0-2, 8.79 ERA) will pitch the first game against Brooklyn's Mark Cohoon (8-2, 2.36). Luis Sanz (5-2, 2.72), Oneonta's top pitcher during the second half of the season, will meet the Cyclones' Brandon Moore (6-2, 2.15) in the second game.

Moore threw a seven-inning no-hitter last Sunday in a 1-0 victory at Aberdeen. He struck out six and walked three.

Following the two games with Brooklyn on Saturday, the O-Tigers will continue their nine-game homestand with Hudson Valley.

The Renegades visit Oneonta for three games beginning at 6:05 p.m. Sunday.

The Tigers then will host a three-game set with Lowell in what could be a key series on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday's meeting will be a doubleheader.

ROSTER MOVE: Infielder Luis Palacios returned to the O-Tigers on Thursday from Single-A West Michigan. Palacios began the season with Oneonta and hit .266 (21-for-79) with four doubles in 26 games.

He was promoted to West Michigan and hit .193 (26-for-135) with seven doubles.
