Alex Driscoll and Alex Leone had a goal and an assist apiece in the second half as host Greene defeated Walton, 2-0, Thursday in a matchup of Midstate Athletic Conference boys soccer powers.
Driscoll opened the scoring 10 minutes into the second half, taking a pass from Leone on the right side a step ahead of a Walton defender. Warriors goalie Dalton Walley rushed out, but Driscoll slid a low shot to the far post.
Walton coach Andy Gates said his team had a golden opportunity to tie it with five minutes left but missed an open net. A minute later, Driscoll scored off a corner kick by Leone.
"We were playing well; the shots were 4-3 them in the first half," Gates said. "They came out with more intensity in the second half. If you let down once or twice, they'll make you pay. Driscoll and Leone are very skilled."
The Warriors' other good scoring chance came in the first half, when Ben Conklin banged a 23-yard shot off the crossbar.
Walley made eight saves for Walton (3-2, 2-2), which plays the host school in the championship game of the Downsville Tournament at noon Saturday.
