Schenevus girls down defending sectional champs

Sarah Mellor scored with 13 minutes, 44 seconds left in the first half, leading Schenevus to a 1-0 Tri-Valley League girls soccer victory at defending Section Four Class D champion Milford on Tuesday.

Sierra Bentley set up the goal with a pass to Mellor to the right side of the goal.

"(The shot) was driven and it knuckled into the side netting, far post," Milford coach Chris Saggese said. "It was a beautiful shot."

Milford held a 10-3 advantage in shots and took seven corner kicks to Schenevus' one.

"I give all the credit to Schenevus," Saggese said. "They played phenomenally."

The Wildcats (2-1, 2-1) travel to Worcester on Thursday.

Webster opened the scoring with 17 1/2 minutes left in the first half. She scored from close range off a crossing pass from Amanda Flint.

Morris (2-0, 2-0) travel to Gilbertsville-Mount Upton on Thursday.

About eight minutes into play, Hanlon scored inside the left post.

Laurens' Heather White snapped a scoreless tie with an unassisted goal four minutes into the first overtime, but visiting Gilbertsville-Mount Upton retaliated in the second extra period for a Tri-Valley League draw at the Wright National Soccer Campus in Oneonta.

Blake Stensland's unassisted goal with 6:38 left in the second of two mandatory OTs tied it for the Raiders (0-1-1, 0-1-1), who held a 23-13 advantage in shots.

Laurens (2-1-1, 1-1-1) is off until next Tuesday, when it visits Morris.

Susan LeRouge's second goal came 6 1/2 minutes into the second half and gave the host Warriors a 2-0 lead in their Midstate Athletic Conference victory.

LeRouge scored on a high shot from 20 yards.

Unatego's Katrina Clark answered a minute later on a 6-yard shot.

Molly Maguire, The Daily Star's Player of the Year in 2010, capped the scoring with seven minutes left.

"Whenever we play Unatego, we know it's going to be a game," Walton coach Kelly Gates said of a game that featured six shots and four corner kicks by both sides.

Walton (3-1, 2-1) travels to Oxford on Friday. The game will be played at Chenango Chargers Field.

Megan Smith scored twice for host Unadilla Valley, which allowed a goal with less than two minutes to play for a MAC tie.

Bainbridge-Guilford took a 1-0 lead on a first-half goal by Gia Cuomo, but Smith tied it with 14:11 left in regulation. Smith scored again with 4:08 to go in the first of two 10-minute overtimes. The Bobcats' Amber DeGroat then converted a pass from Taylor Palmatier with 1:49 left in the second extra period for the tie.

"Both of their goals were beautiful, perfectly placed shots up in the corner," said UV coach Janelle Ross, whose team moved to 1-1-1 this season. "It would have been hard for any goalie to stop those shots."

The Storm host Oxford today.

Haley Hohensee scored on a header off a corner kick by Maggie Hall with 6 minutes left to make it 3-2. Hall scored for the Redskins' first goal on a corner kick that curled into the net in the first half.

The Redskins (0-1, 0-1) play at Ilion on Thursday.
