Allison Troy and Nicole Merigliano scored second-half goals to lead visiting Union College to a 2-0 non-conference field hockey victory over Hartwick on Tuesday.
Troy scored in the 46th minute. Hawks goalie Megan Campbell stopped an initial shot by Caroline Moran, but the ball popped out to Molly Cohen, who set up Troy’s goal.
Then with 37 seconds left, Merigliano dribbled around Campbell and shot past defender Holley Reynolds (Walton) to make it 2-0.
Hartwick (6-6) led in shots, 6-4, and in penalty corners, 15-5.
The Hawks travel to Empire 8 Conference leader Stevens Institute at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Union is 5-7.
Mohawk Valley 4, Delhi 0
Oneonta High graduate Brianna Georgia scored a goal to help visiting Mohawk Valley to a victory that sealed Mountain Valley Conference title.
Georgia is a freshman at MVCC.
Megan Gaffney scored 22:03 into play and Mia DeGironimo had two goals for the winners.
Annie Millar, the reigning Division III athlete of the week for women’s soccer, had 14 saves for the Broncos, who were outshot, 23-16.
Delhi (7-4-1, 4-1-1) travels to Broome on Tuesday. Broncos coach Bob Leary said his team would be well positioned for a bye in the Region III playoffs with a win over BCC.
Cobleskill pair recognized
SUNY Cobleskill runners Geoffrey Hall and Rebekah Johnson were named the North Eastern Athletic Conference’s male and female cross country athlete of the week, respectively.
Hall, a junior, finished 43rd in the Saratoga Invitational on Saturday. He completed the 8,000-meter course in 27 minutes, 1.15 seconds in helping the Fighting Tigers place 10th out of 16 teams.
Johnson, a sophomore, was 22nd Saturday. She ran the 3.04-mile course in 18:29.72, leading Cobleskill to a ninth-place finish in the 15-team field.
Cobleskill will compete in the New York State College Track Conference Meet in Fairport at 11 a.m. Oct. 20.
Cobleskill athlete of the week
SUNY Cobleskill selected sophomore volleyball player Kady Porterfield as its athlete of the week.
Porterfield averaged 3.2 kills, 1.6 digs and 0.9 aces per game as the Fighting Tigers went 3-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Divisional Play Weekend at Cazenovia.
Cobleskill (10-10, 3-5) travels to Green Mountain College at 6 tonight.
