Oneonta golfers open with loss

Justin Cayea shot a 43 to pace Oneonta High in a season-opening golf loss to Owego on Monday at the Oneonta Country Club.

The Yellowjackets also received a 44 from Mitchel Couch in their 225-239 setback to Southern Tier Athletic Conference rival Owego.

Matt Wiekhorst earned medalist honors with a 40 for the Indians, who received a 43 from Cooper Casterline.

Oneonta visits Chenango Forks on Thursday.

Mitch Hull and Kyle Short shared medalist honors with 47s to lead visiting Margaretville to a season-opening victory over Stamford on the par-34 front nine of the Stamford Golf Club. The Blue Devils won, 197-233.

Matt Anderson's 51 paced Stamford (0-3, 0-1), which will be the host team at Christman's Windham House at 11 a.m. today against Roxbury.
