O-State field hockey falls in 2 OTs to No. 6 Skidmore

 

Oneonta State’s field hockey team couldn’t hold a two-goal lead and fell, 3-2, in double-overtime to sixth-ranked Skidmore on Wednesday in a non-conference game at O-State.
 
The Thoroughbreds’ Kelly Blackhurst scored the winner in the 89th minute. She received a drop pass from Ceilidh MacNeill and scored from the top of the circle.
 
Blackhurst also tied the score in the 51st minute. She dribbled around two defenders before scoring on a back-handed shot.
 
The Red Dragons (3-2) turned four shots on goal in the opening half into two goals.
 
Suzanne Wright scored from 5 yards on the right side after receiving a pass from Ashley Morgan in the ninth minute.
 
Four minutes before halftime, Andrea Day scored from close range in traffic to make it 2-0.
 
Skidmore (4-0) halved its deficit after time had expired in the first half. MacNeill set up Annie Weis’ goal on a penalty corner.
 
The Thoroughbreds had a 26-15 advantage in shots.
 
O-State goalie Tess Tracy made her season-high of 16 saves _ seven more than counterpart Haley McDougall.
 
O-State travels to Morrisville at 11 a.m. Saturday.
 
MEN’S SOCCER
 
ESF 4, Delhi 1
 
Kyle Bardwell scored twice to lead Environmental School of Forestry to a non-conference victory at home.
 
Oneonta High graduate Zach Erbe made 17 saves for SUNY Delhi (0-6).
 
Garrett Quimby scored in the second half for the Broncos. His goal cut Delhi’s deficit to 4-1.
 
VOLLEYBALL
 
Delhi wins twice
 
SUNY Delhi earned three-game sweeps at home over Columbia Greene and Davis College.
 
Unatego graduate Kacey LeFever had 11 kills and five aces in the Broncos’ 25-19, 25-17, 25-18 Mountain Valley Conference win over C-G. Raven Worthing contributed five kills and four digs, and Victoria Baxendale had 19 assists and seven aces. Kelly McBreairty finished with six aces and five digs, and Hailie Chandler chipped in with four kills and two blocks.
 
McBreairty had 11 digs and seven aces to lead Delhi to a 25-13, 25-16, 25-21 non-conference win over Davis. Worthing had 10 kills and nine digs; Baxendale had 24 assists and LeFever finished with seven kills.
 
The Broncos (2-4, 1-1) travel to the Broome Invitational on Saturday. They’ll play Corning, Tompkins Cortland and the host school.
