Bronwen Knox
Knox is the only player in Hartwick water polo history to earn Second Team All-America honors from the Association of Collegiate   Water Polo Coaches. The Hawks went 56-20 and won two CWPA Northern Division titles and a CWPA Eastern crown with Knox, who   helped them to a sixth-place finish at the 2006 NCAA Division I Championships.
Knox also earned CWPA Northern and Eastern Championships Rookie of the Year, First Team honors from the CWPA Northern and   Eastern, and an All-American honorable mention from the AWPCA as a freshman. In 2006, she led the country in scoring with   127 goals, was named MVP of the Northern Division and Eastern Championships, earned AWPCA All-Academic team honors, and received   Second Team All-America accolades.
Knox ranks fifth in all-time goals (229) and steals (209) and is eighth in points (286) at Hartwick record books. Her 127   goals and 117 steals in 2006 remain all-time program single-season highs.
Knox went on to help the Australian National Team to a gold medal at the 2006 FINA World Cup, silvers at the 2007 World Championships,   the 2010 World Cup and the 2010 World League Super Finals, and bronzes at the London and Beijing Olympics.
Dr. James Elting
Elting brought the concept of providing student-athletes with a central place to treat injuries by an orthopedic doctor and   work out to strengthen muscles to Hartwick in the 1970s.
With the help of athletic trainers who worked for his Otsego Orthopedics practice, Elting served as the physician for the   football and men’s soccer teams. He was instrumental in having orthopedic surgeons from Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown   volunteer their time. This practice continued even after athletic trainers became full-time employees of Hartwick in 2001.
In 1993, his generous donations led to the creation of the Elting Fitness Center. In 2003, he provided funding to create the   Mitchell Room, named in honor of his friend and Hartwick’s first athletic trainer, George Mitchell.
Elting will be honored posthumously as he died on Aug. 10. He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters Kimberly, Laird and   Regan; and sons Clay and Will.
Larry Serfis
Oneonta native Serfis played men’s soccer under Hal Greig in 1958 and 1959. In 1958, Serfis had a goal and an assist in a   3-1 win over King’s that secured the Warriors’ first of 33 straight winning seasons.
As a senior midfielder in 1959, Serfis finished second on the team in goals and points en route to an all-region selection   and the first All-America pick for Hartwick.
Shannon McConville Hay
Hay was the sixth player in Hartwick women’s soccer history to earn All-America honors. She led the Warriors to 37 victories   in her three seasons with the program and three postseason appearances.
Hay remains third in points (73) and goals (29), and is tied for fourth in assists (15). She helped Hartwick to an NCAA Tournament   appearance in 1990 and a spot in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament the following season.
In 1992, Hay had 13 goals and 30 points to help Hartwick to a college-record 14 wins and the program’s only ECAC Championship.   A three-time New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association all-star and two-time Empire Athletic Association First   Team selection, Hay made all-region and earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America Second Team All-America honors   after her senior season.
Dave Root
Root was the first two-time men’s lacrosse All-American at Hartwick. A transfer from Herkimer County Community College, Root   led the Warriors to 24 victories in his two seasons, which included two Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Upstate Tournament   appearances and the 1992 title.
Root, a midfielder, had 185 ground balls all-time to go along with 85 points, 49 goals, and 36 assists. He was twice named   to the Empire Athletic Association First Team and earned two  United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America   honorable mentions. After his senior season, he earned an invitation to the USILA North/South Game.
Root also played wide receiver and was a return specialist for Hartwick’s football team in 1993. He led the Warriors in receiving   yards, touchdown receptions and average yards per reception. He also ranked second in receptions and scoring.
Tiffany Hurley Carr
Oneonta native Carr is one of two players in Hartwick basketball history to finish with more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.   Carr still ranks in the program’s all-time top-10 in four categories – rebounds (second, 1,011), points (seventh, 1,320),   steals (10th, 149) and blocks (10th, 76). She also still holds the program record for free throws made in a game, sinking   all 16 of her attempts against Nazareth in 2001.
Carr helped Hartwick to 63 victories and three New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament appearances   in her four seasons. She also led the Hawks to a co-Empire Athletic Association title in 1999 and a spot in the NCAA Division   III Tournament.
Carr was a two-time Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year, a three-time E8 First Team all-star, and a 14-time conference   Player of the Week. Following her senior season in 2002, she received a DIII News All-America, a WBCA/Kodak All-America honorable   mention, and made the ECAC Upstate and NYSWCAA First Teams.
Kelly Cooman Kingsbury
Kingsbury played field hockey from 2001-2004 and is the program’s all-time leader in points (164) and goals (68). She also   ranks third in all-time assists (28).
Kingsbury guided the Hawks to four postseason berths and was an all-state selection in each of her four seasons. She led the   Empire 8 in scoring as a sophomore, junior and senior and received state and conference accolades.
Kingsbury had her best season as senior, with 24 goals and 10 assists that helped Hartwick to 16 victories, the Empire 8 title   and the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2004. Kingsbury was a First Team All-America selection, the ECAC and Empire   8 Player of the Year, and a First Team Empire 8, all-state and all-region pick as a senior. She also was an NYSWCAA Scholar   Athlete, Hartwick’s Athlete of the Year and the college’s representative for NCAA Woman of the Year.
Kingsbury coaches field hockey at Oneonta State.
