Colts golf tournament Saturday
Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will host the Tri Valley Colts Captain and Crew Golf Tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The tournament, which is open to the public, costs $25 per person and includes cash prizes for gross, net, closest to the pins and skins.

OHS senior to hold fundraiser Saturday
Oneonta High senior Christie O'Connor will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at her home at 223 County Highway 11.
O'Connor is attempting to raise money to compete in the high jump at the Down Under Games, which run June 28-July 7 in Brisbane, Australia.
In addition to the items for sale, Down Under Sports has supplied "Thank You Tickets" for a drawing for an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Australia and Hawaii.

Oneonta CC to start public league
The Oneonta Country Club will hold a weekly public golf league from 2-5:30 p.m. Thursdays, starting this Thursday. The league will continue until Sept. 1.
Cost to join the league is $40, which will help cover prizes and league expenses. Greens fees are an additional $10 per week and carts, which are optional, cost $8.

Pitch, Hit & Run events set
The City of Oneonta announced Tuesday that it will host two consecutive qualifying stages of the MLB Pitch, Hit, & Run Competition this year.
The local qualifier will run from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Ted Christman Field in Neahwa Park. Participation is free and open to boys and girls ages 7-14 (as of July 18, 2011).
Winners in each of the four age-groups will advance to the Sectional qualifier, which is set for May 15 at Damaschke Field.
Sectional winners may move on to the Team Championship round, which will take place at a Major League Baseball stadium. The national finals will be held at the 2011 All-Star Game at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Entry forms and releases of liability must be submitted to the Recreation Department by the parents/guardians of each contestant, as well as birth certificates. Participants in the local qualifier may pre-register or register the day of the event. Forms are available at the Recreation Office in Neahwa Park and online at www.oneonta.ny.us/recreation.

 The City of Oneonta and Oneonta Little League also will host Sandlot Day 2011 at the same time as the local MLB Pitch, Hit & Run qualifier, from 5-8 p.m. Friday.
Youths ages 7-10 will play on softball field 3 at Neahwa Park, while youths ages 11-14 will play on softball field 2.
Equipment for activities such as Wiffle Ball, kickball and other games will be provided for the children. Sandlot Day is designed for children to choose their own teams, rules and teams with as little adult instruction as possible. Games will run until the daylight is gone.
Cobleskill to host Timbersports event
SUNY Cobleskill will host the Northeast Qualifier for the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series _ the nation's premier lumberjack competition _ Friday and next Saturday at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds.
The Fighting Tigers will field a team for the collegiate portion of the series, which also will feature squads from Colby, Dartmouth, SUNY-ESF, SUNY ESF Ranger School, Finger Lakes Community College, Nova Scotia Agricultural, Paul Smith's, Unity, Connecticut, Maine-Orono, New Hampshire and Vermont. The Northeast winner will advance to the Collegiate Championship at the Oregon State Fair from Aug. 26-28.
Next weekend's event also will feature the Northeast Professional Qualifier, which pits 10 of the region's best professional lumberjacks in a six-discipline, wood-chopping competition. The top four competitors will advance to the U.S. Championship at the Oregon State Fair.

UVSC sets 2011 schedule
Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin announced its schedule for the 2011 season. The UVSC will start with the District Three MX, featuring select quad classes, on May 1, June 5 and June 19.
The ATV National Weekend, highlighted by Round Nine of the ATV National Championship, follows from July 15-17. The track will host its featured summer event, the Rockstar Energy Drink Unadilla National Pro National MX Weekend, from Aug. 12-14. UVSC's final event will be the Grand National Cross Country from Sept. 10-11.

Umpires to help Cancer Society
The local Schohanna Board of Baseball/Softball Umpires will participate in Umpire's Striking Out Cancer, which runs May 2-6.
The board will wear pink cancer bracelets and donate a portion of its game fees to The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Oneonta.

Pee-Wee football registration May 7
Oneonta Pee-Wee Football sign-ups for youths ages 8-12 will run from 9-11 a.m. May 7 at Riverside Elementary. Players must be age 8 by Dec. 1, 2011 and cannot turn 13 before Sept. 1, 2011. Youths who are age 12 and past sixth grade may not participate.
Players also must live or attend school in Oneonta. Birth certificates and a $25 insurance fee are required at registration.

Community center to host run May 7
The Richfield Springs Community Center will host the RSCC Run at 10 a.m. May 7.
The event, which starts on Lake Street, features a 10-kilometer run, a 5K run and a 2-mile walk and is part of the Route 20 Series.
Registration runs from 8-9:45 a.m. May 7 at the VFW. Registration is $16 for adults and $14 for students by May 3 and $18 and $16, respectively, the day of the event.
Proceeds will benefit the Richfield Springs Community Center, and $1 of each registration will go to breast cancer research.

World Series trophy coming to Hall
The San Francisco Giants' 2010 World Series trophy will make a special appearance at the National Baseball Hall of Fame from May 7-8, when the Cooperstown shrine will host its annual World Series Weekend.
The Hall will highlight the franchise's first Series title in San Francisco with two days of special programs and events. The World Series trophy will be on display in the Hall during regular hours.
The Hall will offer a Giants-related museum tour at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day, as well as special presentations featuring artifacts from Giants history at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and Giants Trivia in the Bullpen Theater at noon. All programs are included with regular admission.
The Hall's Autumn Glory exhibit, a tribute to the 2010 postseason, includes several items from the World Series, which the Giants won, four games to one, over the Texas Rangers for the franchise's first crown since 1954.
Among the items on display are the bat World Series MVP Edgar Renteria used to hit his winning home run in Game 5; the road jersey worn by Game 5 starter Tim Lincecum; Cody Ross' batting helmet; and the caps worn by pitchers Madison Bumgarner and Matt Cain.

Modified series to stop at I-88 Speedway
The Thunder on the Thruway Modified Series will make two stops at I-88 Speedway in Afton this season.
These events will have two of the highest purses at the speedway, with $5,000 going to the winner and $250 to take the green flag for the 50-lap features.
I-88 Speedway joins with Utica-Rome Speedway and Fonda Speedway in this series, which features some of the top modified drivers in the Northeast.
The series begins May 8 at Utica-Rome and continues June 8 at Fonda and June 28 at I-88 Speedway.
The second installments will run July 26 at Fonda, July 28 at Utica-Rome and Aug. 30 at I-88 Speedway.
The series closes Sept. 9 at Utica-Rome and Sept. 25 at Fonda.

The annual Big Wheels Golf Tournament is set for May 13 at the Delhi College Golf Course.

The United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties is accepting teams for its second annual golf tournament, a captain-and-crew fundraiser that will start at 12:30 p.m. May 20 at the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in Franklin.

Adult baseball league starts in May
The Leatherstocking Baseball League is accepting registrations for its upcoming season, which runs from late May to early August.
This men's league features six teams from the Oneonta, Laurens, Milford and Cooperstown areas.
Men ages 22 and older may join, regardless of skill level. Games are played weekly and are umpired by professionals.

Delhi Covered Bridge Run is back
The Delhi Covered Bridge Run is set for June 4.
The charity event, which took a break last year, features a 5-kilometer health walk, a 5K run and a 10K run.

Registration open for triathlon
Registration is open for the inaugural Cannonsville Adventure Triathlon, which is slated for June 5.
The race at the Cannonsville Reservoir in the towns of Deposit, Tompkins and Hancock will feature a 6.2-mile run, a 3.9-mile paddle and a 12-mile bike ride.
A pre-race meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. June 5 in Deposit. Participants will be shuttled to the starting line, which is just east of the Roods Creek launch site. The race will start with the run at 10 a.m.

The 22nd annual Headwaters Summer Camp Series for area youth soccer players will begin with the Volkswagen of Oneonta Camp, which runs June 27-July 1 at Otego Elementary.

The 2011 Chenango County Pigskin Classic is accepting applications for its 7-on-7 youth football tournament, which runs Aug. 5-7 in North Norwich.
