Oneonta goes 2-2 at Legion tournament

Jack Benjamin and Eric Scorzafava each had two hits, but Oneonta Post 259 fell, 16-5, to host Utica at the Utica Blue and Gold Classic on Sunday.

The Green Wave (15-12) beat Gibbsboro (N.J.), 4-3, on Saturday. Oneonta split Friday, beating Melvin Roads, 12-2, and losing to Haddon Heights, 4-1.

Brenden Wolfanger (3-2) struck out seven and walked two in a seven-hitter against Gibbsboro, which loaded the bases in the top of the seventh. Wolfanger struck out Winston Villa, who had homered in the sixth, to end the game.

Jeff Wiltsie and Matt Marcewicz each had two hits to pace Oneonta.

On Friday, Nate Eastman homered and Wiltsie doubled in the loss to Haddon Heights.

Mike Tietjen (2-4), who suffered the loss against Haddon, had two hits, including a two-run double in the victory over Melvin Roads.

Wiltsie (2-2) struck out four to earn the victory. Benjamin also contributed two hits.

James Carson's RBI single in the sixth ended the game because of a 10-run mercy rule.

Sidney wins two

Brett Hauber went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs in the second game as Sidney swept Ellenville on the road Sunday.

Winning pitcher Tyler Newman struck out eight and walked six in a four-hitter as Sidney won the second game, 8-4.

Newman had three hits and three runs. Dalton Smith, Cody Chambers and Travis Simmons each had two hits.

Dale Rifenbark gave up seven hits to win the opener, 15-7. He struck out 10 and walked six.

Hauber went 3-for-5 for Sidney. Chet Davis also had three hits.

Newman, Chambers and Kyle Davy each contributed two hits.

Sidney (10-8) plays Oxford-Norwich in Norwich at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
