Sean Getman came up big for Oneonta Legion Post 259 on Sunday.
Getman went 8-for-10, drove in five runs and earned a pitching victory to lead the Green Wave to a doubleheader sweep of host Ilion, 15-1 and 17-7.
"He hit the ball hard every time up," Oneonta coach Mike Jester said of Getman, who went 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs in the first game, which ended after five innings via mercy rule.
Oneonta also received two hits and two RBIs from Zach Pidgeon, who doubled along with Mark Giallanzo. Ben Moxley struck out seven, walked one and allowed one unearned run in a three-hitter for the Green Wave, who held a 2-1 lead before scoring 11 times in the fourth inning.
Moxley is unbeaten during 2012, following an 8-0 high school season for the Class B state champion Oneonta Yellowjackets with his second straight pitching win in Legion play.
Getman, who went 3-0 for OHS, also is perfect on the mound in 2012. He struck out five in four innings of the second game, allowing five runs _ two earned _ on five hits and two walks to improve to 2-0 this Legion season.
Getman helped himself at the plate, going 5-for-5 with two RBIs. Pidgeon finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs in the second game, when the Green Wave received three hits and six RBIs from Giallanzo.
"They hit the ball hard both games," Jester said. "They were seeing the ball pretty good and got some big hits for us."
Giallanzo's 3-for-4 effort in the second game featured a two-run single in the first inning, a two-run double in the second and a two-run triple in the third. David Wright, Moxley and Pidgeon also doubled in the second game for Oneonta, which received another triple from Getman.
The Green Wave (8-3) return home at 6 p.m. today to play Homer at Damaschke Field.

Don't play around with snappers
The other day, I was driving along Route 205 between Mount Vision and Hartwick. Suddenly, I had to swerve out of my lane to miss a huge snapping turtle. It was crossing from a large swamp on the left to some higher ground on the other side of the road.
