Sidney graduate Kyle Morenus threw three touchdown passes to Jordan Wilkins and visiting Hartwick College opened the season with a 31-20 non-conference football victory over Morrisville State on Saturday.
Morenus, who helped Sidney to a Class C state football championship in 2005, went 10-for-23 for 156 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 61 yards. Wilkins finished with eight catches for 144 yards.
Hawks running back Anthony Casimano contributed 150 rushing yards on 29 attempts.
Casimano had a 29-yard run on the first play from scrimmage and three plays later, Morenus hit Wilkins on a 29-yard scoring play. In the second quarter, Morenus again found Wilkins on a 27-yard touchdown play. Heath Dunn's second extra point gave the Hawks a 14-0 lead.
Morrisville made it 14-7 on Kyle Gordon's 22-yard touchdown reception 3 minutes, 35 seconds before halftime.
Hartwick responded by driving 60 yards in 13 plays capped by Dunn's 19-yard field goal with no time left in the half. It gave Hartwick a 17-14 lead.
Sean Barrett's 25-yard touchdown run midway through third quarter cut Morrisville's deficit to 17-14.
The Hawks scored the next two touchdowns, the first a 37-yard Morenus-to-Wilkins pass and the second a 7-yard run by Casimano.
Hartwick had 440 yards of offense and limited the Mustangs to 240.
Defensively, Jordan Spirou led Hartwick with 12 tackles and an interception. Delhi graduate Chad Rockefeller contributed nine tackles.
The Hawks, coming off a 5-5 season that included a 49-25 victory over Morrisville, play host to Salve Regina at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Wilkins was named the Empire 8 Conference's Player of the Week.

Women's Soccer
O-State wins tourney
Goals by tournament MVP Dana DeSimone about 10 minutes apart late in the second hall rallied Oneonta State to a 2-1 victory over Rutgers-Newark in the title game of the Flower City Classic on Sunday at the University of Rochester.
Liana Abreu gave Newark a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute.
DeSimone tied the score at 1 after controlling a poor clearance. As Newark goalie Kat Renteria moved out to contest the shot, DeSimone chipped it past her and just inside the left post at 69:47. A throw-in led to the winner. Erin Boyle found Kayla Brantmeyer, who headed it across the goalmouth and DeSimone tipped into the right side of the goal at 80:19.
The Red Dragons' Alanna Fisher was named the tournament's best defensive player. DeSimone earned SUNY Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.
O-State (2-0) opened its season with a 1-0 victory over the host school.
Senior Nha Wright scored on a direct kick at 59:33, driving the ball from just outside the left side of the penalty area inside the near post with a slew of players from both teams in front.
Jamie Chyat made three saves for the Red Dragons, who were outshot, 12-11.
Early in the first half, Rochester keeper Bridget Lang dived at the feet of sophomore DeSimone just as she got to a breakaway pass in the middle of the penalty area. With eight minutes left in the half, the Red Dragons had another great chance. The Yellowjackets lost possession on a failed clear and Jen Fox centered a pass near the goal area. Freshman Melissa Guglielmo ran onto it but shot past the left post.
O-State will play host to Allegheny on Saturday and Carroll University on Sunday in the Mayor's Cup tournament, which is hosted by O-State and Hartwick.
Hawks split at tourney
Sophomore Emily Thorndike headed a crossing pass from classmate Carly pine with 25 minutes, 39 seconds remaining to give host Hartwick College a 1-0 consolation victory over Delaware Valley College in the Erinn K. Brozman Memorial Cup on Sunday.
Hartwick (1-1) opened its season Saturday with a 2-1 loss in double-overtime to Marywood College, which won its third Brozman title in four years with a 4-0 victory over Utica on Sunday.
The Hawks' goal Sunday started when Alexandria Luke played a ball from the corner of the 18-yard box to Pine, who served a pass to Thorndike in the box. Thorndike's header scored to the far post.
Hartwick kept things scoreless in the first half despite being outshot, 10-1.
Alyssa Rondo made six saves for the Hawks.
On Saturday, Marywood junior Kaitlyn Hresko headed in a 40-yard cross from Lacy Habicht in the second overtime.
Hartwick junior Julie Kessler scored five minutes into play to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Kessler controlled a failed clear attempt, dribbled inside a defender and drove shot over goalie Meghan Coyle.
Marywood (2-1) tied the score with 15 minutes left in regulation Siobhan Blancaflor.
Marywood held a 14-13 advantage in shots, but Hartwick had a 7-3 lead in corner kicks.
Hartwick plays host to Carroll College at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Cobleskill goes 1-0-1
Freshman Andrea Lisk had a goal and an assist as SUNY Cobleskill tied visiting Lyndon State, 2-2, in a non-conference Sunday.
The Fighting Tigers opened the season Saturday with a 1-0 non-conference home victory over Philadelphia Bible University.
On Sunday, Lisk received a pass from Sarah Hoffman and scored on a 35-yard shot to tie the score at 1 in the 49th minute. Lisk then set up Sherilyn Thomas, who scored from 10 yards to make it 2-1. Lyndon State's Michelle Wilcox tied the score on a penalty kick with 20:12 left.
In the Fighting Tigers' first game, Kristen Raina scored off an assist from Thomas in the 64th minute.
Cobleskill freshman goalie Misty Golden made eight saves, including a one-handed tip off the foot of Mary Holzer with 2:03 left in regulation to preserve the victory.
Cobleskill (1-0-1) travels to Albany College of Pharmacy at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
FIELD HOCKEY
O-State opens with 2 wins
SUNY Athletic Conference Player of the Week Ainsley Stoll scored three goals as Oneonta State opened the season with a 3-2 overtime victory over host St. Lawrence and a 1-0 win against Thomas College on Sunday in the Fall Field Hockey Fest.
Stoll scored in the 30th minute against Thomas College. Ashley Johnson sent a penalty corner into the middle and Stoll drove a one-timer past Megan Denby.
Leslie Dauphinais made six saves _ five fewer than Denby.
The Red Dragons had advantages of 18-6 in shots and 17-3 in penalty corners.
On Saturday, Stoll's second goal came on a breakaway in the 76th minute and snapped a 2-all tie. She opened the scoring in the ninth minute on a rebound. Freshman Stephanie Fiske earned the assist after taking the initial shot.
Taylor Vogt's goal late in the first half tied the score at 1 for St. Lawrence, which held 19-9 advantages in shots and penalty corners.
Vogt scored again in the 54th minute to give St. Lawrence a 2-1 lead, but O-State tied it three minutes later on Fiske's goal from close range.
Dauphinais made nine saves for the Red Dragons (2-0).
Rochester 3, Hartwick 2
The University of Rochester's Anna Dobrzynski scored her second goal with 1 minute, 6 seconds left to snap a 2-2 tie as the Yellow Jackets won at home.
Hartwick (1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on sophomore Megan Sweeney's first college goal. She was set up by Amanda Barton.
Dobrzynski tied the score four minutes into the second half, but Hartwick re-took the lead on a goal by Barton at the 40:33 mark. Angela Eberly assisted Barton's first goal of the season.
But Shelby Hall tied the score three minutes later.
Mackenzie Chapman made four saves _ two more than counterpart Madison Wagner.
Hartwick plays host to Rennselaer at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
MEN'S SOCCER
O-State starts 0-1-1
Oneonta State started the season with a 1-1 tie against St. John Fisher on Saturday before losing, 1-0, to the host school Sunday in the Flower City Tournament at the University of Rochester.
Rochester's Jimmy Parrinello scored on a direct kick in the 19th minute. The game featured 30 fouls and three yellow cards.
The Red Dragons brought everyone forward in the closing minutes but couldn't get the equalizer.
Rochester held a 10-8 advantage in shots and O-State took seven corner kicks to the hosts' one.
Against Fisher, O-State trailed, 1-0, after Sean Fishel scored in the seventh minute. Dan Josepher tied the score in the 69th minute, heading in a corner kick from Dan Scott.
Both teams took 14 shots. Fisher had six corner kicks, two more than O-State (1-1-1).
Cobleskill goes 1-1
Oneonta High graduate Aaron Gallusser, The Daily Star's Player of the Year in 2006, scored twice as SUNY Cobleskill opened the season with a 3-1 victory over visiting Philadelphia Bible College on Saturday before a 3-1 home loss to Lyndon State College on Sunday.
Gallusser's goal against Lyndon State closed the Fighting Tigers' deficit to 2-1 in the 55th minute. He scored on a free kick from 25 yards, but Kyle Mecham capped the scoring in the 80th minute.
Cooperstown graduate Mack Curran made four saves for Cobleskill.
Against Philadelphia Bible, freshman forward Soulemane Kone scored from 15 yards to open the score in the 24th minute. About two minutes later, Mike Giuliano from 6 yards off an assist from Brandon Cooper. Gallusser scored on a 35-yard shot with 17 1/2 minutes left to cap the scoring.
Delhi loses twice
SUNY Delhi lost by 1-0 scores to Jamestown and Alfred on Sunday and Saturday, respectively, in the Men's Soccer Classic at Alfred.
James Carlson scored off an assist from Chris Pembridge in the 18th minute for Jamestown, which held a 4-0 advantage in shots. Paul Christiansen made three saves for the Broncos.
On Saturday, Lucas Wales scored on a 20-yard direct kick 4:06 into play.
Delhi (0-3) opened the season with a 3-0 loss at Albany College of Pharmacy on Wednesday.
The Broncos play at North Country at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Lindsey DelVecchio and Aiko Shigetaka won at first and third singles, respectively, but host Delhi fell to 0-2 on the season.
DelVecchio defeated Mikale Fletcher, 6-4, 6-4, and Shigetaka downed Anna Nguyen, 6-1, 7-6 (2). DelVecchio is 2-0 this season.
The Broncos (0-2) play host to Hudson Valley on Wednesday.

Early Bird Invitational
Oneonta High graduate Nick Madison cruised to a 15-second victory in the Early Bird Invitational on Saturday at Fortin Park, helping Oneonta State to a second-place finish.
Madison finished in 19:50 over the 6-kilometer course. Samson Dikeman of Oswego placed second in 20:05. He helped Oswego to the title in the three-team meet. Oswego finished with 33 points, two ahead of Oneonta. Hartwick had 87.
The Red Dragons' John Longo finished third in 20:09. John Stuligross led Hartwick with a sixth-place finish. He crossed in 20:25.
O-State's women cruised to the team title with 16 points. Oswego had 55 and Hartwick finished with 73.
Lauren Brunetto placed first for the Red Dragons, completing the 4.5-kilometer course in 17:56 _ three seconds faster than teammate Celia Alterio. Lindsay Romaine and Danielle Kennedy took third and fourth, respectively, for O-State. Romaine finished in 18:05 _ 10 seconds faster than Kennedy.
Erika Gates finished 11th for Hartwick in 19:10.
Oneonta State will run in the Hartwick Invitational on Thursday.

Harry Lang Invitational
Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton graduate Chris Burnett placed second for SUNY Delhi in the Harry Lang Invitational on Saturday at Colgate University.
Burnett became B-G/A's first individual state-title winner in track, winning the Division II 3,000-meter steeplechase in June at Vestal High. On Saturday, Burnett completed the 6,400-meter course in 20 minutes, 46 seconds _ 12 seconds behind winner Ed Sheridan of Colgate.
The host school won the team title with 19 points. The Broncos finished second out of five teams with 45. Jason Phillips placed seventh for Delhi in 21:44.
Delhi's women did not field a complete team. Taryn Van Valen had the highest finish for Delhi, placing 22nd in 19:01 over 4,200 meters.

Castleton Invitational
Freshmen Conor Cashin and Geoffrey Hall finished 1-2 to lead SUNY Cobleskill to victory Saturday in the Castleton State Invitational.
Cashin covered the 8,000-meter course in a school-record 28 minutes, 10.08 seconds, beating Hall by 36 seconds. Edmeston graduate Zack Dockstader placed fifth for the Fighting Tigers, crossing in 29:16.03. Cobleskill finished with 21 points _ 16 ahead of the host school.
Cobleskill's women placed second to Castleton by a point. Ryan Kelly finished second for Cobleskill, crossing in 21:07.67.
The Fighting Tigers host the Steven A. Warde Invitational at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Holiday Inn Tournament
Hartwick College went 0-4 in its host Holiday Inn Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
Clarkson and Western Connecticut each went 4-0, but Clarkson won the tournament based on tiebreakers.
On Sunday, Hatwick lost to Oswego, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, and to Western Connecticut, 25-16, 25-17, 25-20.
Junior Lauren Mausert had 13 kills and 12 digs against Oswego. Mausert earned all-tournament honors. Freshman Katie Ryan contributed eight kills and classmates Christina Vitale and Kelly Sprengel combined for 28 digs.
Sprengel had nine kills against Western Connecticut. Mausert contributed five kills and seven digs, and Britney Lintner had 17 assists and eight digs.
On Saturday, Hartwick lost, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 25-14, to Kean College. Clarkson downed Hartwick, 25-9, 25-14, 25-6.
Sprengel had 15 kills and 10 digs, and Mausert had 10 kills and 11 digs versus Kean.
Lintner had seven assists and Mausert contributed five kills against Clarkson.
Hartwick (0-4) will play in the Elmira College Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Boxer Invitational
Oneonta State lost all four of its matches in the Boxer Invitational hosted by Pacific University at Forest Grove, Ore., on Friday and Saturday.
The Red Dragons opened with a 25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 25-20 loss to the host school Friday. Brittany Calvello had 12 kills and 13 assists, Kelsey Klopfer contributed 19 assists and Christina Fabiochi had 19 digs for O-State.
On Saturday, O-State opened with a 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 25-11 loss to Linfield University. Fabiochi had eight kills and 26 digs. Jessica Zerega contributed 28 digs and Megan Boeltz had five blocks. The Red Dragons then lost, 28-26, 25-19, 28-26, to Willamette University. Fabiochi's seven kills and 20 digs led the way. Zerega had 19 digs and Boeltz contributed six blocks.
Bethel College defeated O-State, 25-17, 15-25, 25-19, 25-22, on Sunday. Fabiochi had 13 kills and 27 digs. Klopfer, Zerega and Boeltz had 19 assists, 25 digs and eight blocks, respectively.
O-State heads to the Bomber Invitational at Ithaca College on Friday.
Pioneer Classic
Kristen Tucker had 55 assists and 22 digs to lead SUNY Delhi, which went 1-2 in the Pioneer Classic at Alfred State on Saturday.
The Broncos lost, 19-25, 25-17, 17-15, to Niagara County Community College and 25-14, 27-25, to Monroe before defeating Onondaga, 25-21, 24-26, 15-7.
Jackie Bailey had 19 kills and 35 digs; Colleen Darby contributed 13 kills and six aces; and Kelsey Pratt had 14 kills and six blocks.
Delhi (1-3) is at Ulster County on Thursday.
Blazer Invitational
SUNY Cobleskill wrapped up play in the Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms College (Massachusetts) with a 25-22, 19-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-8 loss to Husson University in the title match Saturday.
The Fighting Tigers (3-1) won both of their matches Friday to advance to the championship.
Maggie Trombly and Brooke Burke earned all-tournament honors for Cobleskill. Trombly had 22 digs, seven kills and two aces in the final. Burke contributed 15 digs and 10 kills, and Elizabeth Strap had 13 kills, five digs and five blocks.
Cobleskill plays host to Alfred University at 2 p.m. Saturday.
GOLF
Utica Invitational
Tyler Shaw and Jason Symons shot 83s Saturday at Hidden Valley Golf Course to help SUNY Cobleskill to a seventh-place finish out of 10 schools in the Utica College Invitational.
Vic Ralbovsky contributed an 85 for the Fighting Tigers, who had 337 strokes. Scranton University won with 312.
The Cobleskill Invitational is Friday and Saturday at the Cobleskill Golf & Country Club.
