Golf tournament set for Saturday
The second annual Headwaters Soccer Club golf tournament starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in North Franklin.
Entry fee of $50 per player includes a continental breakfast, gift bag and lunch. The tournament benefits Headwaters' summer camp series.

O-State to host dinner Saturday
Oneonta State will host its annual Dining with Champions on Saturday at Alumni Field House in Dewar Arena.
The event begins with a cash bar at 4:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m.
Oneonta Mayor Dick Miller and National Baseball Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson are among the 45 table hosts.
Tickets cost $100 per person. To reserve a seat, call O-State's athletic office at 607-436-3594 by July 30.
Golf tourney Saturday in Laurens
Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will host the John Dodge Memorial Golf Tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Cost is $25 per person for the captain-and-crew event, which begins with a shotgun start.
Entry fee includes prize money, skins, pin shots and donation.

Flag football tourney this weekend
The second annual Owen Banks Memorial Flag Football Tournament will run Saturday and Sunday at Austin Lincoln Fields in Walton.
Also known as the Bubba Bowl, the charity event will benefit HALos, a not-for-profit bereavement counseling agency.
The tournament is open to players ages 18 and older and will feature a division for co-ed "fun teams" this year.

OHS fall practices start Monday
Oneonta High will open its 2010 fall sports season Monday with varsity and junior varsity practices. Modified practices start Sept. 1.
Football equipment will be distributed to varsity players at 5:30 p.m. Friday at OHS, followed by JV players at 6 p.m. A team meeting will follow.
Oneonta's practice schedule is as follows:
Monday at OHS: Varsity girls swimming, 9 a.m.; varsity and JV football, noon; JV volleyball, noon; varsity volleyball, 2 p.m.; varsity and JV girls soccer, 5 p.m.; varsity and JV boys soccer, 6 p.m.
Monday at Oneonta Country Club: Varsity golf, 10:30 a.m.
Aug. 23 at OHS: Varsity cross country, 8 a.m.; varsity cheerleading, 9 a.m.
Sept. 1 at OHS: Modified girls soccer, 8 a.m.
Sept. 1 at OHS: Modified football, 9 a.m.; modified cross country, 9 a.m.; modified volleyball. 10 a.m.; girls modified swimming, 11 a.m.
Sept. 1 at Oneonta Middle School: Modified boys soccer, 5 p.m.

Unatego teams to practice Monday
Unatego will begin fall practices Monday.
The golf team will meet first as its bus will leave the high school for the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in North Franklin at 7:30 a.m. Monday. Boys and girls varsity and junior varsity soccer will follow at 8 a.m. at the high school.
Unatego's varsity and JV football teams then will hold their first practices at 3:30 p.m.
The Spartans' cross country team will practice Aug. 23 at a time and site to be announced.
Morris teams to practice Monday
The Morris soccer teams will begin practicing Monday. Varsity girls will start at 7 a.m., followed by the varsity boys at 8 a.m.
Modified teams will start practicing Sept. 1.
All paperwork must be submitted before the first practice.
Milford to practice Monday
Milford's varsity girls soccer team will open its fall season with a contract signing at 7 a.m. Monday at Aborn Field. Practice will follow.
The Wildcats varsity boys soccer team starts at 7:30 a.m. Monday with its first practice at the school.
Modified boys and girls soccer practices begin at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 7.
Athletes should wear appropriate soccer attire and bring completed sports contracts and proof of a current physical.
Davenport girls start soccer Monday
The Davenport varsity girls soccer team will begin practices at 8:30 a.m. Monday on the lower field.
Athletes must have seen the school nurse and have all required paperwork completed to be eligible to practice.
Section Four rules meetings set
Section Four will host rules interpretation meetings for the 2010 fall sports season on the following dates.
Monday: Field Hockey, 6 p.m. at Grande in Binghamton Northgate Plaza.
Wednesday: Boys and Girls Soccer, 7:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Oneonta
Thursday: Boys and Girls Soccer, 7 p.m. at Arnot Ogden Medical Center
Aug. 23: Boys and Girls Soccer, 7 p.m. at Seton Catholic Central
Aug. 24: Boys and Girls Soccer, 7 p.m. at Cortland County Office Building
Aug. 25: Girls Swimming, 7 p.m. at Owego Free Academy
Section Four coaches at all levels are encouraged to attend one meeting for their respective sports.
Hall Authors' Series continues Tuesday
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will continue its Summer Authors' Series on Tuesday. All programs are free with Museum admission.

Aug. 20: 1921: The Yankees, the Giants, & the Battle for Baseball Supremacy in New York by Lyle Spatz and Steve Steinberg, 1 p.m.
Bow shoot to be held Aug. 21
The East Meredith Fish and Game Club will host a bow shoot and hog roast Aug. 21 at the club on County Route 10 in East Meredith. The shoot starts at 8 a.m. with the roast to follow at 1 p.m.

Oneonta football sign-ups Aug. 23
Oneonta Youth Football will hold sign-ups/check-ins for the 2010 season Aug. 23 at Field 4 in Neahwa Park.
Weigh-ins and equipment distribution also will take place at this time.
Sign-ups run from 5:15-6:15 p.m. for players ages 8-10 and from 6:15-7:15 p.m. for players ages 11-12. Players must be at least age 8 by Dec. 1 to participate.

Bowlers to meet Aug. 24
The Chen Del O USBC Association will hold its annual bowling membership meeting at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at the River Bend Golf Club in New Berlin.
The board of directors will meet at 6 p.m.

Golf tourney to run Aug. 28-29
The fifth annual French Woods Golf and Country Club 2-Man Scramble Invitational is set for Aug. 28-29 at the Hancock course.
Cost is $200 per team and includes two-day cart rental, lunch Saturday, breakfast Sunday, dinner after Sunday's round, prizes and a complimentary round.
Teams will tee off at 9 a.m. Saturday in two-man best ball and at 9 a.m. Sunday in captain-and-mate. Scores will be combined to determine winners.

Colonial to host tourney Sept. 1
Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will host the Otsego County and Delaware County Retired Teachers Associations' NOT Going Back-to-School golf tournament at 8 a.m. Sept. 1.
All retired educators and guests are invited to play in the captain-and-crew event, which features 18 holes, a golf cart and lunch. Those who do not golf are invited to lunch at 1 p.m.
Cost is $30 for golf and lunch or $14 for lunch.

Golf tourney set for Sept. 11
The Oneonta Professional Firefighters Local 2408 will host its second annual golf tournament at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in North Franklin.
Cost is $60 per person for the captain-and-crew event, which includes 18 holes, lunch from Brooks', prizes and raffles. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Oneonta Little League's Doc Knapp Field.

Lower Deck Dash set for Sept. 12
The annual Lower Deck Dash 5-kilometer Fun Run fundraiser will begin at noon Sept. 12 at the 6th Ward playground on Scramling Ave. in Oneonta.
Raceday registration runs from 9:30-11:30 a.m. T-shirt and pre-registration deadline is Aug. 27. Applications are available at the Oneonta Family YMCA and Sport Tech.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the 6th Ward playground.
