Smallmouths lead to big win at bass tournament
Don Hoag and Bob Gray won the Susquehanna Bass Association's Kirns Body Shop Open last Sunday on Otsego Lake with five smallmouth bass weighing a total of 16.11 pounds.
Don Reutter and Phil Kroll placed second (14.59 pounds); Bruce Hall and Vince Fink finished third (14.43); and Frank Microni and Steve Llewellyn rounded out the top four (13.75).
Microni and Llewellyn caught the big smallmouth, at 19 inches and 3.38 pounds. Mike Barse caught the lunker of the day, an 18 3/4-inch largemouth weighing 4.62 pounds.
The SBA will host the Norm Wiggins Tree Service Open on July 25 on Oneida Lake.
 The SBA also will host a benefit fun tournament from 6 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday on Canadarago Lake. The event will benefit Zone, which is a youth recreation center in Richfield Springs. For more information, call Joe Kosina at 315-858-9023.
Softball fields to be named in honor of Boreali
The softball fields at Doc Reilly Park in Howes Cave will be named for the late Fred Boreali during a ceremony at noon July 31.

Local tennis tournament starts Monday
The Golden Guernsey Tennis Championships will run Monday through July 25 at the George R. Waddington Tennis Courts in Wilber Park.

Gilbertsville track meet set for Monday
The second track meet of a free summer series in Gilbertsville starts at 7 p.m. Monday.
Races will be held in the 9-and-younger 55 meters and the open 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000. Competition in the shot put also is scheduled, and other events may be added based on attendance and interest. The third meet is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 9.
Pee-Wee football sign-ups at Morris start Thursday
The Tri-Valley Colts, a Pee-Wee football team, will host a sign-up night from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Morris Fire Department.

O-State to host Hurley's Heroes track meet Aug. 3
The Hurley Heroes Track Club of Oneonta will host its final Twilight Track & Field Meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 at Oneonta State.
The meet, which is free and open to the public, will feature competition in the following events.
Ages 14-and-older: 800 meters, mile, 3,000, high jump. Ages 14-and-under: 50 meters. All ages: 100, 200, 400. Participants should dress appropriately. Selected awards will be presented.
Golf tournament set for Aug. 14 at Ouleout Creek
The second annual Headwaters Soccer Club golf tournament starts at 8 a.m. Aug. 14 at the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in North Franklin.

Morris basketball tournament set for Saturday
The 19th annual Morris Booster Club 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Morris Central.
Trophies will be awarded for the top three teams from each level of the double-elimination tournament, which allows a maximum of five players per team.
Entry fees are $17 per player at the open level (all ages; over-30); $12 per high school player (boys 11-12 varsity, JV and junior high; girls high school and JV or modified); and $7 per elementary player (grades 3-4; grades 5-6).
The event also will feature three-point shooting and dunk contests. Players may send registrations to P.O. Box 426, Morris, NY 13808 or register the day of the event.

Stallions' home opener is Saturday at Hartwick
The New York Stallions will open their home schedule for the 2010 Empire Football League season against the Amsterdam Zephyrs at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hartwick College's Wright Stadium.
All of New York's games at Wright Stadium this season will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets for home games cost $5, but youths ages 12 and younger will be admitted for free.

Unadilla Valley SC to host ATV races this weekend
The Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin will host the ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Championship on Saturday and Sunday.
This event marks round nine of AMA National Amateur Racing and round four of the North Challenge. Amateurs will race all weekend. Pro riders will practice Saturday and race Sunday.
Tickets for Sunday's pro races cost $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 6-11. Fans may arrive early each day to tour the pro pits and attend free autograph sessions.
Josh Creamer holds a 25-point lead over Team Suzuki teammate Dustin Wimmer in the title chase. Wimmer has won the last two championships.

Bow shoot slated for Sunday in Gilbertsville
The Gilbertsville Rod & Gun Club will hold a 3D Bow Shoot featuring 40 targets and seven classes Sunday.
Registration runs from 7-11 a.m., with breakfast available from 7-10 a.m. Trophies will be awarded for Juniors and Cubs.
The club also will host an all-day trapshoot at 9 a.m. July 25. Refreshments will be available at both events.

O-State to host basketball camp starting Sunday
The Oneonta State women's basketball team will host a developmental overnight/commuter camp run by head coach Daphne Thompson for girls ages 10-18 from Sunday through Thursday.
Cost is $375 for overnight guests and $300 for commuters. Groups of five or more from the same school who register at the same time will receive a $10 discount from the total price.

Youth soccer camps continue Monday
The 2010 Headwaters Soccer Club will host four more camps for youths ages 7-17 this summer.
Cost to attend one camp is $60 per player. Each participant will receive a T-shirt and a water bottle. Camps, which are also open to teams, run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.
The Bassett Healthcare Sports Medicine Camp, which will run Aug. 9-13 at Oneonta State, is filled to capacity. The HSC will offer the following camps:

July 26-30: New York Central Mutual-Wightman Specialty Woods Camp at Edmeston Central.

Hall of Famer Fingers to headline golf event
Baseball Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers will be the featured guest at The Business Council of New York State's third annual Business Council Member Golf Classic, which is set for Tuesday at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown.
The event begins with an 11:30 a.m. buffet lunch and will be followed with a scramble golf tournament at the par-72 Leatherstocking Golf Course. The Otesaga will then host a reception and an awards dinner. The Baseball Hall will host a private dessert reception with Fingers to close the day.

Football camp starts Wednesday at OHS
The Oneonta Football Booster Club will host a non-contact summer football camp from Wednesday through July 24 at Oneonta High. Designed for Oneonta City School District students entering grades 7-12 this fall, the camp runs from 1-3:30 p.m. July 21, 22 and 23, and from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 24. Tsuga Links to host golf shootout this summer
The Tsuga Links golf course in New Berlin will feature the Theodore Fox $1,000,000 Shoot-Out this summer.
Golfers will earn one point each time they play at the course. Three points earn one qualifying shot at a 135-yard target in a fairway. The top three who are closest to the pin will advance to a final shootout Sept. 4 and receive one shot apiece to sink a hole-in-one for the $1 million prize.
Should someone make a hole-in-one, $250,000 of the million will be donated to Catskill Area Hospice. Professionals are not allowed to participate.
Tsuga Links also will host and 18-hole captain-and-crew tournament July 25. Cost to enter is $35.

Golf event set for July 25 at Belden Hill
The Unatego boys basketball team will host a captain-and-crew golf tournament at the Belden Hill Golf Course at 8 a.m. July 25.
Cost is $50 per person and includes greens fees, cart, lunch and prizes. Proceeds will help fund the team's trip to Orlando, Fla., in December as the Spartans plan to play in a tournament at the Disney Sports Complex.

Davenport Fire 5K set for July 31
The eighth annual Davenport Fire Department 5K will start at 10 a.m. July 31.
The event will start and finish at Charlotte Valley Central in Davenport, where raceday registration will be accepted from 8:30-9:45 a.m.
Cost is $15 for those who register by July 24 and $20 thereafter. Students can register for $10.

The First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville will host its 10th annual invitational golf tournament at 8 a.m. July 31 at Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens.
