Hartwick 14, MSM 3
Harry Hughes finished with six goals and one assist Thursday as Hartwick cruised to a non-conference win at home.
The Hawks are 2-0 on the season for the first time since 2008. The Knights played their season opener Thursday.
Roy Simmons had four goals and Phil Schaefer amassed two goals and a game-high five assists for the Hawks, who received one goal apiece from Mike Vaglica and Elliot Rose.
Carl Lengel made six saves in 55 minutes as the starting goalie for the Hawks, who scored five times in the first quarter to take a 5-0 lead.
Hartwick is off until March 9, when it hosts Farmingdale State.
BASEBALL
O-State opens Saturday
Oneonta State will begin its baseball season Saturday at Rowan University.
Ben Grimm enters his second season as head coach of the Red Dragons, who will play a doubleheader Saturday before heading to Johns Hopkins two games Sunday.
Oneonta will be on the road until March 28, when it’s scheduled to host Old Westbury.
