The Oneonta Outlaws' Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League season ended Wednesday night with a 8-5 loss at Glens Falls.
Oneonta's loss coupled with Mohawk Valley's 9-3 victory at Watertown knocked the Outlaws out of the final playoff position. Oneonta (25-22) came into the final night of the regular season with a half-game lead over Mohawk Valley (25-21), which secured the fourth and final playoff spot and will travel to first-place Amsterdam to start to a best-of-three semifinal series Friday night.
The Outlaws trailed, 8-2, heading into the ninth inning but made things interesting.
Sutton Whiting and Zac Johnson hit RBI singles, and Zach Lucas' sacrifice fly pulled the Outlaws to 8-5.
When Cody Hough walked to load the bases with two outs, Oneonta had the tying run on first base, but Ben Mordini bounced back to the pitcher to end it.
The Outlaws surged over the final week of the season, winning six of their last seven games heading into Wednesday.
Glens Falls (27-20), which will host Newark in the first game of the semifinal series on Friday, scored six runs in the first two innings off of losing pitcher Taylor Hicks (1-5).
Kevin Meyers' two-run single in the second inning gave the Golden Eagles a 6-1 lead.
Glens Falls extended its lead to 8-1 by scoring twice off of Whiting in the sixth inning.
A sacrifice fly by Hough in the eighth cut Oneonta's deficit to 8-2.
The Outlaws won the New York Collegiate Baseball League title last season and then switched to the PGCBL during the offseason.
