Senior Jesse Dobson, junior Kacy Boburka and freshman Rob Farrell of Oneonta State earned track and field academic scholar honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of America.
Dobson and Farrell made up 50 percent of the male athletes honored in the SUNY Athletic Conference. Boburka was among 10 SUNYAC females to be recognized.
It marks the second straight year Boburka has received the honor. A two-sport athlete, Boburka was an all-conference selection in volleyball and qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the second straight season. The Chenango Valley graduate finished fourth at nationals in the high jump to gain All-America honors.
Dobson's second season with the Red Dragons included SUNYAC titles in the 400 meters and as part of O-State's 400 relay. He also was on O-State's 1,600 relay team that qualified for nationals.
Farrell joined Dobson on the 1,600 and 400 relays, and won the SUNYAC title in the 110 hurdles. During the indoor season, Farrell broke O-State's record in the 60 hurdles while finishing in the conference championships.
Athletes had to have a GPA of 3.30 or higher and had to meet the provisional qualifying standard in his or her events in the indoor or outdoor seasons to become a scholar athlete.
