Tigers rebound from loss with win Saturday

First baseman Rawley Bishop hit two home runs, including a grand slam Saturday, to lead the Oneonta Tigers to a 7-2 New-York Penn League victory over the Aberdeen Ironbirds at Damaschke Field.

Outfielders Michael Rockett and Alexis Espinoza each contributed two hits and a run for the Tigers, who took a 6-0 lead after Bishop's slam in the fifth.

Chris Sedon led off the inning with a strikeout but reached base on a wild pitch by Aberdeen's Nicholas Haughian. Sedon later scored on a single by Jamie Johnson.

Jimmy Gulliver was caught trying to steal home before a single by Rockett chased Haughian. Reliever Brian Sisk hit Wade Gaynor to load the bases before Bishop homered to left field.

Bishop, whose also homered to left with two out in the fourth, finished 2-for-4 with two runs and five RBIs.

Espinoza, who went 2-for-4, tripled in the eighth and scored the final run on a John Murrian single.

Winning pitcher Nate Newman allowed three hits, walked two and striking out three over five innings. Reliever Michael Torrealba gave up a walk and a double in the ninth before Kevin Faulk got two sacrifice-fly outs and a pop out to catcher Murrian to end the game.

Pitch-hitter Espinoza doubled and scored in the ninth inning of Friday's 10-1 loss at Aberdeen.

The Ironbirds' Lance West went 1-for-2 with a home run and two walks. Aberdeen took a 9-0 lead after the seventh inning on a two-out home run by West.

Starting pitcher Luis Angel Sanz (0-1) allowed three runs on three hits, walked five and struck out six for the Tigers.

Bishop, Keith Hernandez and Rockett each singled for Oneonta.
