Staff Report
Jamie Johnson hit his first professional home run Monday, helping the Oneonta Tigers to a 10-0 New York-Penn League victory over the host Tri-City ValleyCats.
The Tigers won their regularly-scheduled game at Tri-City after falling, 4-1, to the ValleyCats in the completion of a game that was suspended by fog Sunday night at Damaschke Field.
Left-handed hitter Johnson led off the second game, which was cut to seven innings, with a home run to right field off T-C starter Wander Alvino (3-3, 3.69 ERA).
Rawley Bishop followed with a one-out single to center and took second on a wild pitch before John Murrian made it 2-0 with another single to center.
Johnson, drafted by Detroit in the seventh round this year, also hit an opposite-field, two-run double to left off Alvino that gave the Tigers a 4-0 lead in the fourth. With one out, Eric Roof walked and Luis Palacios singled before the two advanced on the third of Alvino's three wild pitches. Johnson doubled in both after Carmelo Jaime grounded out to first.
Oneonta (26-17), which leads the Stedler Division by 3 1/2 games over the Lowell Spinners (23-21), roughed up T-C relievers Scott Migl and Daniel Sarisky in the seventh.
Migl who walked Michael Rockett, allowed a double to Bishop and walked Murrian to load the bases for Alexis Espinoza. His line-drive, RBI single to right put Oneonta ahead, 5-0, re-loaded the bases and chased Migl (14.54 ERA).
Bishop scored when Sarisky (6.00) walked Wade Gaynor. Palacios then reached on a run-scoring fielding error by third baseman Erik Castro and Jaime followed with a two-run single to left for a 9-0 lead. Palacios moved to third on the

play and scored the final run when Johnson grounded out on a comebacker to Sarisky.
Johnson finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs for the Tigers, who received a six-hitter from winning pitcher Clemente Mendoza. The right-hander struck out three and walked two to improve to 4-2 this season and lower his ERA to 3.32.
Bishop also finished 2-for-5 and scored twice for Oneonta, which outhit Tri-City, 10-6. Murrian, who went 1-for-3, leads the Tigers with a .352 batting average. Rockett (1-for-4) is batting .337 and Bishop is at .304.
Tri-City, last in the four-team Stedler Division at 14-29, won the suspended game after breaking a 1-all tie in the top of the fourth.
The game resumed with J.D. Martinez at second and none out in the top of the fourth. Martinez was the last batter Sunday before umpires suspended the game because of fog. He reached second when Oneonta left fielder Michael Rockett lost Martinez's flyball in the fog. The ball dropped in for a double.
Michael Morrison, who replaced Sunday starter Cory Hamilton when the game resumed, walked Monday's first batter, Eric Castro. Morrison then got Jhonny Medrano to ground into a 6-4-3 double play that sent Martinez to third. Martinez then scored on a passed ball charged to Oneonta catcher Keith Hernandez. Sean Barksdale, who was batting at the time of the passed ball, struck out to end the inning.
The ValleyCats tacked on two runs in the sixth against Morrison, on RBI doubles from Jacob Goebbert and Medrano. Although he didn't throw a pitch Monday, Hamilton (3-2, 2.08 ERA) took the pitching loss as he was charged with Martinez's tiebreaking run.
Johnson, who doubled and scored Oneonta's run in the first inning Sunday, finished 3-for-4. Palacios and Roof singled for the Tigers' other hits, the latter plating Johnson. Palacios bunted for a single in the second inning Sunday. Johnson also singled in the third and beat out an infield single in the fifth, the latter marking Oneonta's only hit after the suspension.
The Tigers open a six-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. today, when they host the Jamestown Jammers in the first meeting of a three-game set. Oneonta then hosts the Staten Island Yankees for a three-game series from Friday to Sunday.
