Zach Pidgeon went 3-for-3 with five RBIs Tuesday, leading Oneonta Post 259 to a 13-1 Legion baseball rout of host Cooperstown at Cherry Valley-Springfield.
Pidgeon earned the only multiple-hit performance of the game, which ended after five innings via the mercy rule.
Ben Moxley, Sean Getman and Dan Hodne doubled for the Green Wave (9-3), who took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
"We should have been out of the first inning with no runs," said Cooperstown coach Ed Dubben, whose team committed 10 errors overall. "Holding that team to 13 runs is good. They're a great team. We hit the ball, but they play great defense. They're solid, no ifs, ands or buts about it."
Winning pitcher Mark Giallanzo (2-1) struck out four, walked two and allowed four hits in three innings. Ethan Bliss and Sawyer Haney doubled off of Giallanzo, who gave up singles to Bryan Segit and Alec Denninger.
Cooperstown scored its run in the fifth against David Wright, who threw two hitless innings of relief.
Cooperstown (0-3-1) hosts Sidney at CV-S on Thursday, then visits Harpursville on Friday.
Oneonta opens play in the Rhode Island Tournament at 1 p.m. Thursday against West Seneca of New York. The Green Wave then play defending Rhode Island state champion Cranston at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The 10-team tournament features pool play Thursday and Friday. The top two teams in each pool advance to the semifinals Saturday, with the championship game to follow Sunday.
