Ed Dubben's time is up at Cherry Valley-Springfield.
Dubben announced Tuesday that he will not coach the Patriots' baseball team next season, ending his 16-year reign as the head of a program that has won five Tri-Valley League championships since 2006.
"I decided to retire (in 2012) three years ago," said Dubben, 47, whose team will enter the 2013 season as the three-time defending T-V champions. "It was the best-kept secret in the Tri-Valley League."
Dubben said the CV-S Board of Education recently voted for his brother, Tim Dubben, to take over the program. Tim Dubben, 38, also coaches the CV-S girls basketball team.
Ed Dubben said he will continue to work for Brown's Feed of Frankfort. He'll also keep co-coaching SUNY Cobleskill's club baseball team with Jim Byron. Dubben's son Sam plays for the Fighting Tigers' club team.
Dubben spent the first 12 of his 28 seasons with the CV-S baseball program as an assistant under former head coach Tom Brigham, who is the Patriots athletic director.
"After I graduated from high school, I went right to Brigham and told him I wanted to coach baseball," CV-S graduate Dubben said.
In addition to the T-V three-peat this past season, Dubben led CV-S to back-to-back league crossover crowns in 2006 and 2007.
"I've had a good run," he said. "It's been a joy."
Dubben's sister, Terri Adams, coaches boys soccer at CV-S. The Patriots have earned at least a share of the T-V boys soccer title the last five seasons under Adams, including outright championships in 2010, 2009 and 2007.
