CV-S boys shut out Morris in final

Edmeston girls cruise to title

Ben Drugatz and Kyle Jaquay scored in the first half Saturday, leading Cherry Valley-Springfield to a 2-0 defeat of Morris in the championship game of the Edmeston Tournament.

Drugatz, a freshman, made it 1-0 with 10 minutes, 17 seconds in the first half and Jaquay capped the scoring 1:06 later.

"They really played together as a team," CV-S coach Terri Adams said. "We really emphasize that team concept of moving the ball around and getting the best opportunities. We did have a lot of (other) opportunities in the first half but just didn't finish."

The Patriots (2-0) finished with advantages of 25-3 in shots and 8-3 in corner kicks. Winning goalie Andrew Bosc made one save for CV-S, which was led by tournament MVP Justin Monahan.

Jaquay joined Brett Adams and Chad Thompson on the all-tournament team, along with Morris' Kerry Smith (10 saves), Justin Schaffer and Zach Doyle.
