Girls basketball tryouts set



The Catskill Mountain Girls Basketball Club will hold tryouts for the upcoming AAU season this Sunday at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.



Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. Tryouts for girls ages 12-14 run from noon-1:30 p.m., followed by tryouts for girls ages 15-16 from 1:30-3 p.m. A non-refundable tryout fee of $25, which covers AAU registration and insurance, is required at registration.

Holiday Inn to host gun show



The Holiday Inn in Oneonta will host a Midstate Arms Collectors and Shooters Club gun show from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2.

Softball meetings begin Monday



The City of Oneonta will hold informational meetings for its 2010 adult softball programs in March. Topics will include fees, service changes, a new registration/release process, new divisional alignments and rules.



The Oneonta City Women’s Recreational Division (formerly C and D) will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, followed by the Women’s Advanced Division (formerly A and B) at 7:30 p.m.



On March 15, the Men’s Recreational Division (formerly C) will meet at 6 p.m., followed by the Men’s Advanced Division (formerly A/B) at 7:30 p.m.



Mixed bowling starts Wednesday



Vasta’s Miracle Lanes in Stamford is forming a new, mixed bowling league that will begin Wednesday. This eight-week league is open to men and women of all skill levels.



An organizational meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with bowling to follow.

Youth basketball to start March 13



The Hartwick College women’s basketball team will host a “Biddy Basketball” program at Lambros Arena from 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays from March 13-May 15.



The program costs $20 per session and is designed for boys and girls in grades 1-6. Campers will be divided by age and skill level. Those who pay for all nine sessions before the camp starts will receive a $30 discount.

Youth soccer registration under way



The Oneonta Youth Soccer Association has distributed registration forms for its Spring Recreational Soccer Program throughout elementary schools in the Oneonta City School District. Forms also are available at Sport Tech in Oneonta.



The program is for youths in kindergarten through third grade who attend a City of Oneonta school or live within the Oneonta City School District.

Softball event set for March 14



The Otego Little League program is seeking teams for its Benefit Big Ball Snowball Softball Tournament, which is set for March 14 at Otego Little League Field.



The co-ed tournament is open to players of all ages. Cost is $150 per team. Proceeds will benefit the OLL.

Water exercise starts March 15



SUNY Delhi will host water exercise classes Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from March 15-April 30. Aerobic classes run from 5-6 p.m. each day during the six-week program, but no classes will be offered from April 12-15.



Cost is $6 per day for those who wish to participate one class at a time. Delhi also offers classes at the following rates: $30 for one day per week; $60 for two days per week; and $80 for three days per week.

Hartwick to host Harlem Globetrotters



Hartwick College’s Lambros Arena will host the Harlem Globetrotters for a show during their 2010 “Magical Memories” World Tour at 7 p.m. March 18.



Tickets start at $25 and are available online at www.hartwicktickets.com. Ticket information is also available at the Harlem Globetrotters’ official website, www.harlemglobetrotters.com.



The Globetrotters will perform nearly 270 shows in more than 200 cities in 44 states, the District of Columbia, five Canadian provinces and Puerto Rico through the first week of May 2010.



Delhi sets pool hours



SUNY Delhi has announced its swimming lessons schedule for the spring of 2010.



Option I is six lessons and runs from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays from March 20-May 8. Cost is $35 for the entire session. Option II is 12 lessons and runs from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays and 4-5 p.m. Wednesdays from March 17-May 8. Cost is $50.



Swimming lessons will not be held April 7, 10, 14 and 17.

NRA firearm instructor courses set



The Oxford Rod & Gun Club will hold NRA Shotgun Instructor and NRA Rifle Instructor courses in March.



The NRA Shotgun Instructor course runs from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. March 20 and 21.



The NRA Rifle Instructor Course us set for 8 a.m.-6 p.m. March 27 and 28. Since the first six hours of each course is NRA Basic Instructor Training, those who take both courses should arrive at 2 p.m. March 27.



Cost is $150 for either course or $275 for both. Deadline for registration and payments is March 5. Lunches, refreshments and all materials will be provided.

Softball league to meet



Dino’s will host a meeting for the 35-and-over softball league in Laurens at 6:30 p.m. March 22.



The first 16 teams to pay the $250 league fee will be admitted.

OBGC sets Duke Invitational



The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club will host its 11th annual Duke Invitational Basketball Tournament from March 22-27.



The tournament, a fundraiser for the Boston Hospital Children’s Heart Foundation in memory of Vincent Duke Johnsson, will be separated into divisions for each gender (ages 12-and-under, 13-15 and 16-18).



Entry fee is a donation of $100 per team. Each team can have a maximum of 12 players. Rosters and fees are due by March 12. Late registrations will not be accepted. Space is limited.

Golf course to hold meetings



Woodhaven Park Golf Course in West Oneonta will begin hosting league meetings at 5:30 p.m. March 22.

Colonial Ridge sets golf meetings



Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will hold organizational meetings for its Tuesday and Wednesday night men’s leagues at 5:30 p.m. March 30 and 31, respectively.



League play will begin in April, weather-permitting. Each league will feature two-man teams competing in three flights with staggered starting times of 3-4:15 p.m., 4-5:15 p.m. and 4:30-5:45 p.m. Colonial Ridge will pair players who register without partners.



Colonial Ridge also will hold organizational meetings for the following league as follows: Monday Morning Ladies, 9 a.m. April 26; Monday Night Ladies, 5:30 p.m. April 26; Tuesday Morning Men, 9 a.m. April 27; Thursday Night Men, 5:30 p.m. April 29; Friday Night Couples, 5:30 p.m. April 30.

Golf league seeks foursomes



The Out’nAbout Players Touring Golf League, a Thursday morning scratch league, is accepting nine foursomes to play local courses from May to September.



The league, organized by Bainbridge resident Dick Germond, begins play at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott on May 20. Cost will be $35 per person.



No course will be played twice during the 17-week season, except the Sept. 16-17 Handicap Tournament & Dinner that will end the year at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich. The league purse will be split between the top three finishing foursomes of the first 16 rounds of scratch golf and the top three finishers in the season finale.

Bethpage Black to host federation golf



The New York State Federation of Secondary School Athletic Associations announced Monday that the Bethpage Black Course in Bethpage State Park on Long Island will host the 2010 Federation Boys Golf Championships on June 13.



The top six golfers from each of the four associations _ the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, Public School Athletic League of New York City, Catholic High School Athletic Association, and Association of Independent Schools _ will compete in an 18-hole tournament.



The Federation tournament started in 2001 at Thomas Carvel Country Club in Pine Plains, which hosted the event for seven years. Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira hosted the tournament the past two years.



Bethpage Black is rated as one of the top golf courses in the nation and hosted the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009.



The NYSFSSAA also announced that the Times Union Center in Albany will host the 2011 Federation tournaments in boys and girls basketball.



Bowling program still has openings



Vasta’s Miracle Lanes in Stamford still has openings for its intramural bowling program, which runs at 4 p.m. Fridays and is open to all kids ages 9 and up.



The program includes three games of bowling and expert instruction from four-time PBA Champion Gus Lampo and his staff, as well as awards and special prizes.

Baseball club to host tourneys



The Blue Jays Baseball Club will hold its seventh annual exhibition series near Cooperstown for high school varsity teams in the spring of 2010.



The club also will host tournaments for summer teams ages 13, 14U, 15U, 16U and 18U. Night games are possible.

Oneonta State is hosting a weekly television sports show called “Inside Red Dragon Sports” at 7:30 p.m. Mondays on Time Warner Cable channel 23. Replays of each show will be televised at 9:30 p.m. Thursdays and 6 p.m. Saturdays on TWC channel 23.
