Oneonta's Legion baseball team suffered back-to-back losses to a pair of Pennsylvania squads in the West Scranton Wood Bat Tournament over the weekend.
The Green Wave fell, 11-1, to Pennridge in the tournament's consolation game Sunday. On Saturday, they lost, 4-3, in 10 innings to Jersey Shore.
Pennridge's Evan Myers threw a seven-hitter against Oneonta.
"He had a pretty good fastball," Oneonta coach Mike Jester said of Myers.
James Emilio's RBI single in the second inning tied the score at 1, but Pennridge scored three times in the third inning off of losing pitcher Ryne Rivino. The first of Stefan Swainter's two doubles drove home two runs in the third inning.
Dan Hodne had two hits for Oneonta.
In Saturday's game, the tournament used the international tiebreaker rule in the 10th inning as each team started with a runner at second to begin the inning. Jersey Shore's Eric Huling started at second and went to third on a bunt single. The next batter flied to left. Huling bluffed going home and drew a throw, which missed the cutoff and skipped away, allowing him to score the go-ahead run.
Oneonta's 10th ended when Mike Calkins sent a hard liner to right that was caught and the runner was doubled off of second.
David Wright had an RBI single in the second inning to tie the score at 1 for Oneonta. The Green Wave tied it at 3 in the eighth, when Hodne hit an RBI single with two outs.
Hodne, Sean Getman and Rivino had two hits apiece for Oneonta.
Mark Giallanzo (1-1) pitched all 10 innings for the Green Wave. He allowed two earned runs in an eight-hitter, striking out eight and walking one.
For the numerous players on Oneonta's Legion team who played on the high school team that won the Class B state title last weekend, Saturday's loss ended a 20-game winning streak. Oneonta High finished its 24-2 season on a 16-game winning streak.
Oneonta (4-2) hosts Oxford/Norwich at 6 p.m. today at OHS in a District Six Division II game.

Don't play around with snappers
The other day, I was driving along Route 205 between Mount Vision and Hartwick. Suddenly, I had to swerve out of my lane to miss a huge snapping turtle. It was crossing from a large swamp on the left to some higher ground on the other side of the road.
