Oneonta City Stallions co-owner Tom Terry said the Troy Fighting Irish football team hasn't lost in three seasons.
That trend continued Saturday with Troy's 56-17 Northeastern Football Alliance victory over the visiting Stallions.
"Quite honestly, we're very competitive with our entire division," Terry said. "The problem is Troy resides in our division. The other teams we've played very competitively."
The Stallions' points came on a 98-yard kickoff return by Oneonta High graduate Noble Champen, a 10-yard touchdown run by Michael Mason and a 25-yard field goal and two extra points from Sidney graduate Jimmy Kazalski.
"They've been the champions in the NFA the last two years," Terry said of the Fighting Irish. "We were outplayed, outmanned and outcoached. They're a very good football team. However, we could and probably should have played them closer."
Terry said the Stallions lost a fumble inside Troy's 5 in the third quarter and twice set up Fighting Irish touchdowns by failing to convert on fourth-and-short situations inside their 40-yard line.
Mason finished with 75 yards on nine carries and caught two passes for 45 yards. Cooperstown graduate Mike Tandle had one reception for 60 yards.
Oneonta City (1-2), which has lost two straight since a season-opening 24-13 win over Cortland, will host Watertown at 6:30 p.m. this Saturday at Hartwick College.
