Lexi Duda went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Cooperstown to a 6-4 victory over visiting Port Byron in a Section Three Class C-2 Tournament quarterfinal Wednesday.
Duda highlighted her outing with a two-run double in the fifth inning, when the Redskins (15-6) scored three times to take a 4-3 lead.
Cooperstown put runners at first and second with none out in the fifth before Meghan Vann bunted both into scoring position. Alannah Haggerty followed with an RBI groundout and, after the Redskins got another runner on base via error, Duda doubled in two more runs.
Cooperstown followed with a two-run sixth, getting an RBI single from Natalie Reich and scoring an unearned run on an error to take a 6-3 lead.
Winning pitcher Nicole Cring (15-6) struck out nine, walked one and scattered five hits.
Port Byron scored three times against Cring in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. Maria Morgenthaler tripled in two of PB's runs in the inning. Cring also gave up one run in the seventh.
Holli Erkson, who finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Redskins, singled home Duda in the second inning to put Cooperstown ahead, 1-0.
Reich went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for third-seeded Cooperstown, which advanced to a C-2 semifinal Saturday against No. 2 Weedsport or No. 7 Bishop Grimes. The higher seed will host Saturday's semifinal.
Weedsport and Bishop Grimes, who split two games during the regular season, will meet in the quarterfinals today.

OHS girl wins Class B title
Oneonta High freshman Taylor Hitchcock moved to the head of the class Monday at Vestal. Hitchcock won the Section Four Class B title in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 8 minutes, 5.2 seconds to automatically qualify for the Section Four State Qualifiers on May 30.

O-State sprinter gets three chances to be the best
