Mike Calkins and Ben Moxley combined to strike out 10 in a four-hitter and Oneonta hitters produced 19 hits, including two grand slams in the fifth inning, in a 22-0 Legion baseball victory at Whitney Point on Monday.
Calkins (5-2) struck out five over three innings and Moxley had the same number in the final two innings.
Zach Pidgeon and Moxley hit grand slams during a 12-run fifth inning, when the game ended because of the mercy rule.
"I've never seen that," Oneonta coach Mike Jester said of the two grand slams in one inning.
Moxley hit his into the gap in the left-center.
"They both had to run it out because there's no fence," Jester said. "They would have been out in a lot of ballparks. Plus, the ground was so hard the ball rolled forever. The one Pidgeon hit was just a blast. It would have been out of Damaschke."
Pidgeon went 4-for-4 with five RBIs. Moxley finished with three hits and four RBIs, and Sean Getman had three hits and three RBIs. Josh Garufi and Ben Payton contributed two hits apiece.
The Green Wave (22-10) begins play in the District Six Tournament on Saturday at Conlon Field in Binghamton.
"I think we have a good chance if we play good baseball," Jester said of the eight-team, double-elmination tournament that runs through next Thursday. "We have four pretty good starting pitchers. We might have the deepest pitching staff in the tournament. I think we have as good a chance as anybody."
Oneonta fell to Binghamton Post 1645 in last year's district final.
The tournament pairings will be announced Wednesday.
