Outlaws fall, 5-4, on the road

Eric Helmrich hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and a two-run double in the eighth as the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs rallied for a 5-4 victory over the visiting Oneonta Outlaws on Friday in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

The Outlaws (19-19) took a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning on an RBI double by Cory Hunt in the third inning and an RBI single by Orlando Rivera in the fifth.

Zac Johnson's two-out homer in the eighth inning gave the Outlaws a 3-2 lead. It was Johnson's second homer of the season.

With one out, Tyler Heck walked. Chris Cruz then reached on an error by second baseman Hunt that sent Heck to third and Cruz to second. David Del Grande followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Heck to tie the score as Cruz went to third. After Morrow walked, Helmrich's double made it 5-3.

The Outlaws' Zander Wiel homered to start the ninth _ his third of the summer _ to make it a one-run game. A one-out single by Omar Garcia and a two-out single by Logan Brown put the tying run in scoring position, but Rivera grounded to short to end it.

Garcia finished with three hits and Ziel had two for Oneonta, which plays host to Elmira at 7 p.m. Saturday.
