Cobleskill men set 1,600 relay record

Carlton Wildman won the 400-meter run in a program-record 48.77 seconds, then helped SUNY Cobleskill's men to a multi-record time of 3:19.39 in the 1,600 relay Saturday at the non-scoring Cortland Classic track and field meet.

Wildman ran Cobleskill's first leg of the 1,600 relay, which also featured Tomas Velasquez, Ramon Velasquez and Emile Barnett. The foursome broke the program, meet and stadium record of 3:21.87 set by Cortland last year.

Barnett also set an individual program record, placing second in the 800 in 1:54.75.

SUNY Delhi's Andre Britton denied Wildman a victory in the 200. Britton finished first in 22.07, .09 ahead of Wildman.

Dan Sullivan paced Oneonta State's men with a meet-record in the high jump. He cleared 6 feet, 3.5 inches for first place.

The Red Dragons also received firsts from Joe Reed (10.87 in 100); Joe Sullivan (175-3 in javelin); and their 3,200 relay team of Fred Romer, Frank Pfaffenberger, Oneonta High graduate Tim Greenberg and Sean Daly (8:03.18). Reed, who ran the only sub-11-second time in the 100 Saturday, set the meet record of 10.63 in 2008.

Oneonta's women swept the relays and received a 1-2 finish in the 100.

Janine Sacca (13.22) and Connie Belkevich (13.34) took the first two spots in the 100. Both ran on the victorious 400 and 1,600 relay teams, which finished in 50.97 and 4:02.70, respectively. O-State's 3,200 relay squad also won, in 10:26.94.

Delhi's Daira Veloz rounded out the local winners with a 1:06.05 in the 400 hurdles. She beat O-State's Liz Maziejka by 1.62. Tynessa Washington paced Cobleskill's women with an eighth in the 400 (1:02.66). She also helped the Fighting Tigers to a fourth in the 1,600 relay (4:20.95).
