A.J. Beaulieu scored the final points of Hartwick College's 68-66 Empire 8 Conference men's basketball victory over host Elmira on a driving layup with 1 minute, 28 seconds left Saturday.
The Hawks (9-11, 3-9) held Elmira (3-17, 1-10) scoreless on its last two possessions.
Jan Cocozziello scored 24 points, including 17 in the first half, to lead the Hawks. Ramond Doyley contributed 13 points and Beaulieu scored 11.
The Hawks led, 21-11, after nine minutes but trailed, 36-33, at the half. Hartwick bounced back to regain the lead two minutes into the second half and built a 65-56 cushion with less than five minutes to play. The Soaring Eagles then went on a 10-1 run to tie it, but Beaulieu scored the go-ahead points on a layup off the glass.
After each team failed to score, Elmira's Bobby DiPiazza missed a three-pointer with three seconds left. DiPiazza finished with a game-high 25 points for the Soaring Eagles, who received 13 from Noah Zazulia and 11 from Jon Adamson.
Hartwick hosts Utica on Tuesday. The Pioneers, who received two points from Oneonta graduate Chris O'Brien, downed the Hawks, 78-58, on Jan. 17.

Michael Grimes had game-highs of 23 points and 10 rebounds for the visiting Red Dragons (14-7, 9-3), who shot 53 percent (24-for-45) from the floor in a SUNY Athletic Conference victory Saturday.
Grimes finished 7-for-9 from the field and 9-for-11 from the foul line for Oneonta, which got 12 points from Ryan Morin, 11 from Brian Hooks and 10 from Maurice Lane.
Harris Wichard's college-high 19 points led the Hawks (7-13, 4-7), who received 16 points from Lee Bertram.
New Paltz trailed, 38-33, at the half and faced a 65-61 deficit with 1:54 to play, but O-State hit 6-of-8 free throws to end the game on a 6-0 run.

Adam Fusco scored the last four of his game-high 18 points in the final 21 seconds to lead visiting Penn State Berks to a non-conference win Sunday.
Fusco beat two defenders for a layup that gave PS Berks (5-15) a 57-53 lead. After Travis Linton missed at the other end, Fusco drew a foul and sank both free throws for the final margin.
Kevin Mitchell's 10 points paced the Fighting Tigers (7-12), who play D'Youville on Wednesday.

Andrei Lucas sank two of his three three-pointers in overtime, when visiting Cobleskill outscored Wells, 13-6, to win a non-conference game Saturday.
Lucas finished with a game-high 23 points for the Fighting Tigers, who received 13 points and 10 rebounds from Taiquan Newkirk. Cobleskill blew a 30-21 halftime lead as it trailed, 45-43, with 1:52 left before Corey Lewis hit two free throws to tie it.
Juan Paulino had 19 points and 19 rebounds to lead Wells (9-11).

After Clinton Community College pulled to three points midway through the second half, Monte Cumberbatch hit back-to-back three-pointers to help host SUNY Delhi to victory Saturday.
Cumberbatch had 16 points and Nyquan Bellamy contributed 19 for the Broncos (15-11), who have won five straight. Spencer Bonneau had eight rebounds and six assists to go along with four points for Delhi, which hosts Mohawk Valley at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Walton graduate Pat O'Brien had six points for Clinton.

Lauren Ploof, Fritzi Flores and Katie Caddell each scored in double figures Saturday, when Hartwick won an Empire 8 game on the road to earn its first 10-win season since 2005-06.
Ploof scored 17 points, Flores had 16 and Caddell contributed 11 for the Hawks (10-11, 5-7), who took a 45-25 lead into halftime en route to completing a regular-season sweep of the Soaring Eagles. Hartwick held a 58-38 advantage with 11:44 to play, when Krystle Crouse hit a jumper. Her shot marked the Hawks' final field goal as Hartwick scored its last 13 points on free throws.
Hartwick, which finished 26-for-34 at the foul line, hosts Utica on Tuesday.
Marcia Coakley scored a game-high 18 points for Elmira (8-12, 3-8), which received 16 from Erin Rupell, 11 from Becky Peterman and 10 from Chelsea Kent.

Lani Smith contributed 16 points and Downsville graduate Stephanie Shellman had 12 for the Broncos (12-10), who avenged a 66-62 loss to the Generals on Jan. 22. Shanay Bradley grabbed 18 rebounds for Delhi, which hosts Mohawk Valley on Tuesday.
The Daily Star named Shellman its Player of the Year in 2007.
Cooperstown graduate Samantha Fox had 13 points for Herkimer. Fox, a two-time Daily Star First Team All-Star, helped the Redskins to a Class C state semifinal appearance last season.

Kim Steinberger earned three top-10 finishes for SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday at the Skidmore Sprint Invitational.
Steinberger's best finish was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.33). She also placed fifth in the 50 breaststroke (39.82) and 10th in the 50 free (28.50) for the Fighting Tigers, who finished last with nine points in the five-team invitational.

Syracuse Invitational
Joe Reed and Eric Theiss led Oneonta State's men with NCAA Division III provisional qualifying times in the 55-meter dash Saturday at Syracuse University. Reed won in 6.41 seconds and Theiss placed fifth in 6.47.
Theiss also set one of four program records for the Red Dragons, winning the 200 in an Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifying time of 21.87 to beat Reed's mark of 22.08 at the 2008 SUNYAC Championships.
Fred Romer finished second and tied his school record of 1:06.28 in the 500 for O-State, which also received program records in the shot put (44 feet, 11.75 inches) and the weight throw (49-8.5) from Mike DeVasto. He placed third and fourth, respectively, in those events.
Nick Pampena (mile, 4:20.30) and Marty Nicholson (5,000, 15:49.64) also placed first for the Red Dragons.
Carlton Wildman's fourth in the 400 (50.71) paced Cobleskill's men, who received a 23rd and a program record from Andrew Gelston in the 3,000 (9:15.98).
Lauren Brunetto earned a victory for Oneonta's women, with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:18.62 in the 500. She also teamed with Lacie Newland, Liz Maziejka and Kristen Stein for a third in the 1,600 relay (ECAC, 4:07.44). O-State's women also got a second from Erica Weiglhofer in the high jump (5-1.75).
Ryan Kelly earned the best individual finish for Cobleskill's women, with a ninth in the 500 in a program-record 1:23.38.
The Fighting Tigers compete Friday and Saturday at the Cornell Invitational.
Unatego graduate Amanda (Laytham) LoPiccolo, who serves O-State as a volunteer distance coach for her husband and head coach, Matt LoPiccolo, and 2008 Oneonta graduate Kaitlin O'Sullivan finished 1-2 during a USATF qualifying attempt in the mile.
Eight-time Frostbite 5K women's champion Amanda LoPiccolo and O'Sullivan, a four-time All-American for the Red Dragons, represented the Syracuse Chargers Track Club and tried to beat the standard of 4:46.14.
LoPiccolo led the first 300 meters before O'Sullivan took over and passed the 3/4-mile mark at 3:33.6. LoPiccolo took the lead for good with 100 meters to go and finished in a personal- and club-record 4:45.25. O'Sullivan placed second in personal-best 4:46.78 as both beat Jennifer (Finnegan) Patruno's Chargers record of 4:47.28.
The duo will head to Boston University on Friday as O'Sullivan attempts to qualify in the mile and LoPiccolo will try to do the same in the 3,000. The USA Indoor Track and Field Championships run Feb. 28 and March 1 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. ESPN2 will televise live events from 5-7 p.m. March 1.

Deschriver Invitational
Andre Britton ran his season-best in the 55 meters, winning in 6.57 seconds to lead SUNY Delhi at the non-scoring Deschriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg University on Saturday.
Josh Schultheis finished fourth in the 500 (1:09.51) and Chris Burke placed seventh in the 800 (NJCAA qualifying time of 1:59.24) for the Broncos, whose distance medley relay team placed third (10:57.21).
Unatego graduate Anthony Eardley placed sixth in the triple jump (41 feet, 3 1/4 inches) and ninth in the long jump (20-6 1/2).
Daira Veloiz paced Delhi's women, placing third in the triple jump (35-1/4) and sixth in the 200 (27.16).
Oneonta High graduate Ann Ward placed ninth in the 500 (1:26.61) and Rachel Gleason (Walton) finished 10th in the 5,000 (23:30.79).
The Broncos are at Cornell on Saturday.

Triton Invitational
No. 14 Hartwick went 1-1 Saturday at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational, following an 11-7 loss to 15th-ranked Long Beach State before downing Cal-Baptist, 16-10.
On Sunday, Hartwick beat Marist, 13-8, to improve to 3-6 and set up an evening meeting against Cal-Bakersfield. No information was available on the Hawks' final match at press time.
Kirsten Hudson had three goals, two steals and three drawn kick-outs in the opener for Hartwick, which received two goals and an assist from Jessica McKee. Barbara Amaro and Lisa Bass also scored for the Hawks, who got five saves and two assists from goalie Jessica Dorman.
No other Hartwick statistics were available at press time.

Wesleyan tri-meet
Oneonta State went 1-1 Sunday during a tri-meet against Williams and host Wesleyan.
Charlie Trumm's pin of Vin deLalla at 141 pounds set up the Red Dragons for an 18-17 victory over Wesleyan. Trumm won in overtime at 7:28. Eric Johanson (133 pounds), Eric Simmons (157), Michael Hamilton (184) and James Lamonica (heavyweight) contributed victories by decision for Oneonta.
Delhi graduate Josh Wake (174) and Johanson (133) pinned their respective opponents in a 25-21 loss to Williams.
Hamilton (184) contributed a victory by decision and Carlos Soto (125) won by forfeit for the Red Dragons, who host their final home meet of the season at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Morrisville.
