B-G/A wins CV tourney

Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton went 5-0, including a 37-27 victory in the final over the host school to win the Valley Duals at Chenango Valley on Saturday.

Jamie Griswold (103 pounds), Chris Burnett (130), Daren Terpstra (140) and Victor Coronado (145) all won by pin in the final for the Bears, who also defeated Delhi (63-12), Lansing (55-15), Binghamton (73-0) and Southern Cayuga (63-11).

Calkins Memorial

David Carman, Shawn Hanrahan and Tyler Newman each won championships to lead Unatego to a fifth-place finish at the 15-team Calkins Memorial Tournament at Richfield Springs on Saturday.

The Spartans finished with 102 points. Sherburne-Earlville won with 169, followed by Mohawk (137.5). Unadilla Valley finished ninth with 73 points and Cooperstown last with 14.

Carman beat Frankfort-Schuyler's Joe Deconte, 7-6, in the 125-pound final. Hanrahan pinned UV's Todd Wilcox in 1 minute, 6 seconds at 152 and Newman beat UV's Justin Peek, 8-0, in the 189-pound final.

Lucas Lyons (96) also finished second for the Storm, who host Unatego on Tuesday.

James Faughnan (285) finished third for the Spartans and Evan Kiss (171) fourth. Justin Sigler (160) place third for UV.

Jacob Vaccario, Cory Hunter and Dalton Smith each went 4-1 for Oneonta at the Red Creek Duals. The Yellowjackets (3-4) went 3-2 on the day, beating Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, 46-28, Williamson, 54-25, and Red Creek, 43-37.

OHS fell to Churchville-Chili, 51-15, and North Rose-Wolcott, 68-11.

Brendan Pidgeon finished 3-1 on the day at 215 and Timmy Bemis had two pins on the day at 119 pounds for Oneonta.

Oneonta travels to Maine-Endwell on Tuesday.
