Tournament MVP Brian Hooks hit a pair of three-pointers down the stretch and Oneonta State's men's basketball team defeated host Rochester Institute of Technology, 72-66, in the final of the Harold J. Broadie Tournament on Saturday.
Hooks finished with 12 points, one of six Red Dragons to score at least eight points.
Maurice Lane had 13 points, Troy Talbot had 12 and Michael Grimes contributed 11 for O-State (7-3), which has won six of its last seven games. O-State's Talbot and Ryan Morin were selected to the all-tournament team.
Brian Beckford and Rob Fitzgerald had nine and eight points, respectively, for the Red Dragons, who'll next play Jan 4 at Utica College.
Oneonta High graduates Brendan Harder and Dan O'Brien, last season's Daily Star Player of the Year, played for RIT (4-3). Harder, also a freshman, scored four points and O'Brien had none on 0-for-4 shooting.

Senior forward Danee Harrison hit a free throw with six seconds left to give the Hartwick the lead and made a steal on visiting Clarkson's final possession.
The Hawks ended the first semester at 4-3, marking the first time since the 1999-2000 season they'll enter January with a winning record.
Harrison finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds for Hartwick, which had a six-point lead with 58 seconds left.
Junior Krystle Crouse came off the bench to score 10 points in 16 minutes, and Lauren Ploof and Heather Pruchansky each scored nine for Hartwick, which outscored Clarkson, 19-7, from the foul line.
Hartwick, which rallied from a 13-point deficit in the first half, plays at the University of Rochester on Jan. 2.

Hartwick player honored
Hartwick senior defender Liam Parrington was one of 90 players nationally selected for the United Soccer Leagues (USL) Player Showcase, a three-day event that started Sunday at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C.
The showcase provides professional coaches the opportunity to scout potential professional players from the Premier Development League and the college ranks. This year's event drew more than 250 applicants.
Parrington established himself as one of the top defenders in the Mid-American Conference this season. He was one of 48 players nationwide to be named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List in mid-August. He scored three goals and had an assist in 17 games for the Hawks and was a first team All-MAC selection.
Parrington scored in a 2-0 victory over Bowling Green at Elmore Field on Oct. 4, and assisted on a goal in a 2-2 draw with Bucknell at the Bucknell/Days Inn Classic in Lewisburg, Pa., on Sept. 14.

Bainbridge-Guilford graduate Kris Stafford won twice by pin, but Oneonta State lost dual meets to Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 21-19, and host Johnson and Wales, 32-12, on Sunday.
Stafford pinned WPI's John Gikas in 4 minutes, 1 second at 184 pounds, and then pinned J&W's Austin Roberts in 1:19 at 197.
Stafford was the lone Red Dragons wrestler to win two matches.
Delhi graduate Josh Wake earned an 11-1 decision over WPI's Larry Loomis at 174. Wake lost, 16-10, to J&W's Jermone Owens.

Oneonta State senior Eric Theiss won the 400 meters in SUNY Athletic Conference record of 48.62 seconds to lead the Red Dragons at the St. Lawrence Holiday Relays on Saturday.
Plattsburgh's Jeff Dobson had held the conference of 48.91, which he set on Feb. 9, 2007.
Theiss' time is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Theis also hit the ECAC standard in the 55 dash, crossing in 6.54 seconds. Teammate Joe Reed won the event in 6.42 to better his NCAA qualifying time of a week ago by .05 seconds.
Mike DeVastro placed second in the weight throw, covering 15.03 meters.
Kevin Haring earned his first college victory, taking the shot put (12.64).
On the women's side, senior Janine Sacca earned two victories. She won the 55 in a personal best 7.50 and anchored the winning 800 relay team, which crossed in 1:48.94. Lauren Brunetto, also part of the relay team, won the 400 in 1:00.45,
Freshman Erica Weiglhofer broke her school record in the high jump, clearing 1.56 meters.

Jasper Invitational
Unatego graduate Anthony Eardley placed sixth in the long jump for SUNY Delhi on Saturday in the Jasper Invitational at Manhattan College.
Eardley jumped 20 feet, 7 1/2 inches.
The Broncos' R.J. Howansky was sixth in the triple jump, covering 12.76 meters. Teammate Adam Jenne placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing 3.50 meters.
Matt Holmes and Andre Britton finished in 6.7 and 7.0 seconds, respectively, in the 55 dash.
Delhi's women received a sixth-place finishes from Pareesha Leitos in the shot put (9.67 meters) and Amanda Cade in the pentathlon (1,800 points).
Delhi travels to Cornell on Jan. 9.

Herkimer Invitational
Chad Snyder broke SUNY Delhi's school record in the 400-yard individual medley in leading the Broncos to victory in the Herkimer County Community College Invitational on Saturday.
Snyder touched in 4 minutes, 46.52 seconds, smashing the previous record of 5:03.78 set by Gunter-Ryan Spikereit on Feb. 17, 2001.
Snyder also won the 500 free in 5:31.76.
Delhi won with 222 points _ 60 better than runner-up Herkimer.
The Broncos' Mark Wood won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 232.65.
Delhi's women placed second with 183 points in a meet won by Genesee with 370.
Tessa Farmar led the Broncos by winning the 200 backstroke in 2:36.88.
Oneonta High graduate Bayla Akulin was part of Herkimer's winning 400 free relay team that touched in 4:27.56.
