{"HeadlineLight14"/}Baseball Hall to open new exhibit

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will open an exhibit dedicated to the 2008 Major League Baseball postseason at 1 p.m. Monday.

The exhibit Autumn Glory will feature artifacts from the postseason, including items from the World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies and the American League champion Tampa Bay Rays.

Phillies artifacts from the World Series include Eric Bruntlett's cap from home games; Ryan Howard's bat from Game 4; the helmet Carlos Ruiz wore when he drove in the winning run in Game 3; Jayson Werth's spikes; the bat Joe Blanton used to homer in Game 4; Brad Lidge's cap from his Series-ending save in Game 5; and the Game 5 jersey of MVP Cole Hamels.

Items donated from the Rays include Carl Crawford's World Series road jersey; B.J. Upton's World Series spikes and the bat he used to hit four homers in the ALCS; and manager Joe Maddon's road flap-cap.

The Hall also has an exhibit dedicated to the 1980 Phillies, who won the franchise's first World Series title.

The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club on River Street will continue its Oneonta Fast Pitch Softball Pitching Camp this Sunday and Nov. 23.

Session I is for advanced/intermediate pitchers ages 13-18 and runs from 1-2:15 p.m. each Sunday.

Session II also is for advanced/intermediate pitchers ages 13-18 and runs from 2:15-3:30 p.m.

Session III is for beginners ages 8-12 and runs from 3:30-4:45 p.m.

Registration costs $75 for each session, with a $25 discount for pitchers who will participate in sessions I and II ($125 for both).

The Oneonta Soccer Club will host an 18-hour "E" license course for soccer coaches at Oneonta State from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. this Sunday and Nov. 23.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Little League sign-ups start Tuesday

Oneonta Little League Baseball will hold registration for its next season from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

All players must register, including returners. Youths ages 8-12 are eligible to play, and those ages 10-12 who are not on a major league team must try out.

Cost is $50 and is due at registration. Financial assistance is available. Proof of age and three or more documents displaying legal addresses of parents/guardians also are due at registration.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Elks Hoop Shoot set for Nov. 22

The Oneonta Elks Lodge will host its annual Hoop Shoot at 10 a.m. Nov. 22 at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

The Hoop Shoot, which is a free-throw-shooting contest, is for youths ages 8-13. Copies of birth certificates are required to participate.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}CSC to host basketball clinic Nov. 22

The Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown will host a basketball clinic featuring Atlantic Coast Conference All Legends Team and former WNBA player Nicole Levesque-Andres on Nov. 22.

Players will participate in group instruction aimed at improving individual skills and basketball fundamentals.

The clinic runs from 10 a.m.-noon for third- and fourth-graders and from noon-2 p.m. for fifth- and sixth-graders.

Cost is $15 for CSC members and $25 for non-members. Each group has a limit of 25 participants.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Baseball Hall to offer VIP passes

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will offer the VIP Experience, a behind-the-scenes look at the shrine, on select dates from November through April.

The Hall of Fame VIP Experience begins with exclusive after-hours access to the Hall on Thursday evenings and ends Friday afternoons with private receptions. The package also includes a Hall of Fame Sustaining Membership ($100 value), a library archive tour and a museum collections artifact presentation.

Space is limited for the program, which continues on the following dates: Dec. 4-5; Jan. 8-9; Jan. 22-23; Feb. 5-6; Feb. 19-20; March 5-6; March 19-20; April 2-3; April 16-17; and April 23-24.

The Cooper Inn, The Inn at Cooperstown, The Phinney House, The Rose and Thistle Bed and Breakfast and The White House Inn will offer accommodations. The program should be booked through the local merchants.

The Oneonta Soccer Referee Association will offer a course for those interested in officiating USSF matches starting Jan. 13.

The Calcio Soccer Club is accepting registrations for its competitive travel teams, which play in the Broome Soccer League, tournaments and other "friendly" events.

The Blue Jays Baseball Club will sponsor a high school varsity baseball exhibition series near Cooperstown next spring. MVP trophies and medallions will be awarded.

The club also will sponsor tournaments for youth teams ages 13 and older on Columbus Day weekend, Memorial Day weekend and during the summer.

The Redskins' girls basketball team defeated visiting Waterville, 63-29, and earned the co-championship in Division III of the Center State Conference on Friday. Cooperstown and Hamilton each finished with 9-1 league records.
